She grinned as she replied.

“Good. The girls are here.”

“Is Colt still driving by?”

“Yes.”

She glanced at Maya, who was in a conversation about cookies with Lara at the moment.

“I’ll finish here in a half hour.”

Her heart fluttered. She knew what she wanted.

“I’d love for you to come here.”

“See you soon.”

Spencer read the reports coming in from Maya and Addy. His anger rose to the surface at an alarming rate. Colt Lowe was proving to be a first-class ass and then some. His aches and pains aside, Kenna had been through enough without this asshole making her feel unsafe.

He finished up his job, left the construction site, and made a beeline for Kenna’s place. Addy’s car was still sitting in the parking area of The Paper Trail when he arrived, and he was grateful they were there with Kenna.

He sent off a quick text to Kenna to disarm the door for him, and the second he saw the “Disarmed” icon come up on his phone app, he entered the building, locked the door, and took the stairs as quickly as he could. His knees were still sore from diving away from Colt Lowe, preventing him from taking them two at a time.

At the top of the stairs, Kenna stood at the door and as soon as he saw her, he pulled her to his body for a hug. The warmth and feel of her body against his made his heart prance around in his chest. The sweet aroma of her perfume, oranges or citrus of some sort, filled his lungs and he inhaled it willingly.

“Are you alright?” he whispered.

“Yes.” She turned toward the women in the living room, now watching them with interested grins.

He took her hand in his and walked toward them.

“Hey, ladies. Am I interrupting girls’ night?”

Maya’s amusement showed through, but to her credit, she only shook her head.

Shianne, of course, broke the silence. “It’s good seeing you again, Spencer.”

He wondered what she had said about their failed date. “Nice to see all of you.”

Kenna squeezed his fingers. “Do you want a drink?”

“No. I’m good and if you want to continue trashing men or whatever, I can go hide in the bedroom.”

“We’re not trashing men.” She giggled.

Maya leaned forward, her elbows on her knees, her hands clasped in front of her. “If I can get serious a moment.”

He nodded, and she continued. “Colt Lowe. He’s driven by here several times tonight, getting out of his truck and standing in the road staring up here once. He’s getting bolder, and the sheriff isn’t hauling his ass in.”

“I saw your reports. I have a call into the sheriff asking just that question.”

Addy stood. “I honestly think if you two want to get any sleep, and just for peace of mind, you need to bring Kenna to the HOG. Our team won’t be split up that way and you’ll be safe. Colt seems unpredictable, and he’s escalating. On top of dealing with the BRR, play this smart.”

He nodded. “I was going to talk to Kenna about that this evening, actually.”

Colt’s truck rumbled low again, this time on the First Street side of the building. Spencer descended the stairs, with Maya and Addy behind him. They watched out the window of the entryway as Colt’s truck drove away.
