“Do you want me to call anyone?” I know from my da and Jade that the Gallo’s have a feud with the local motorcycle club in Indianapolis, and I have a feeling that the men riding behind us belong to that chapter.

Elio shakes his head. “We’re twenty minutes out from Hayden and Ade’s home. We’ll be fine.”

I appreciate that he’s trying to comfort me, but there’s something about this situation that has my stomach knotting.

The revs of the engines behind us grow louder and closer. I turn my head to see where they are now. They’re on the bumper. There’s no way they’re going to let us get away. They’re after something. I just pray that none of us get hurt in the process.

“Fuck,” Elio growls. I glance at him as he swerves the car to the left. “Get down,” he snarls, and pushes my head down to my knees.

I’m in shock. I have no idea what the hell is going on, but before I can ask, a van slams into the side of the car. My body jerks as the vehicle flips. A scream is lodged in my throat as I watch Elio be thrown forward. Thankfully, his seat belt keeps him from moving much.

The car rolls once more, and this time, I do release my scream. It’s filled with fear and worry, but it’s short-lived when my head slams against the window, causing my vision to darken and stars to form.

Blood seeps down my face as darkness begins to close in.

“Open your eyes, Chloe,” Elio snarls, but I can’t. The pull is too much. I succumb to the abyss.

I wake to someone grabbing a fistful of my hair.

“You’re comin’ with us,” he growls as he begins to pull me from the car.

I look over at Elio, but he’s slumped over the steering wheel. Unmoving. Is he dead? Oh God, what did they do to him? Bastards.

I fight against the man dragging me from the vehicle, not letting him take me without a fight. Fuck no, I’m not going to let some arsehole take me without doing everything I can to stop it.

I claw at his hands as I twist against his hold. But it’s no use. He’s stronger than I am.

“Fuckin’ bitch,” he snarls as he deals a harsh kick to my tailbone. Pain unlike any other erupts from my back, and I bite down on my lip to stop the cry from spilling out.

“Let go of me,” I scream as he continues to drag me. My skin scrapes against the ground, splitting open with every movement.

“Shut her the fuck up,” I hear growled from behind me.

The man who’s pulling me drops me to the ground with a thud. Once again, pain rips through my back, and unlike last time, I’m unable to keep the cry contained. It spills from my lips as tears spring to my eyes.

“Fuckin’ whore,” the man hisses as he stands above me. “Can’t do as you're told. That’s alright, you’ll soon learn.” He cocks his fist back and lets it fly, smashing it into my face. I hear the sound of bone and cartilage breaking as blood gushes from my nostrils, but thankfully, I don’t feel the pain, because the darkness claims me.

CHAPTER SEVEN

CHLOE

“Wakey wakey, bitch,” a deep, angry voice growls as I come to. Pain fills my body unlike anything I’ve ever felt before. Every inch of it hurts like hell. My eyes are heavy as I try to open them. I’m finding it hard to breathe, and I remember that my nose is broken. “Look at me,” he says angrily. I flinch at the tone.

I’m standing with my arms and legs tied to pillars either side of me. I try to move my hands, but the zip ties that are chaining me to the pillar chaff at my skin, causing me to wince.

Fear courses through me. I have no idea what’s going on. I don’t know who the hell this guy is, let alone why I’m here.

Memories of the car crash assault my mind. Now I realize why my body is in so much pain. It’s the men from the motorcycle club, the ones who have been warring with the Gallo’s. But that still doesn’t explain why I’m here and not a Gallo.

A strong, calloused hand grips my jaw, fingers biting into my skin, no doubt leaving more bruises. “Look at me bitch,” the man snarls. “I said fuckin’ look at me.”

The room is dimly lit, and it takes me a while to adjust to it. Once I’m able to focus clearly, I find myself staring into two dark eyes that are filled with rage and hatred. The dim light is coming from a crackling fire behind me. The warmth of it does nothing to ease the chill that’s encasing my body.

“You’ve really fucked up, haven’t you?” he sneers at me.

“What?” I ask, wondering what he means. I have no idea who he is, or what they want.

His chuckle is deep and merciless. “We’ve been paid a lot to ensure that you learn your lesson.”
