My brows knit together. Lesson? What lesson?

“I don’t understand,” I say through my teeth as the bastard squeezes my jaw tighter. Why would someone pay them to take me? It makes no sense.

“Not my problem,” he growls as he pushes his face against mine.

“Why are you doing this?” I ask, needing to understand why I’m here.

“The agreement is we get to do whatever the fuck we want to you, and your family realize that they’re not untouchable.”

I freeze at his words. My family?

“Who?” I whisper as dread fills the pit of my stomach.

He laughs, and the sound chills me to the bone. The door opens, and I hear the shuffling of feet. Someone else is here. The room isn’t lit well enough to see who, just enough to make out the figure of the person. They move through the room and hunch over the fireplace.

“This is gonna hurt,” the fucker tells me as he takes a step backward, an evil fucking smirk on his face.

Footsteps sound behind me, and I catch the man who entered the room moving behind me.

“Ahhhhhhhhh,” I scream as a burning pain rips through my hip. The fucker is branding me with a hot poker. I buck against my restraints, trying my hardest to get away from the pain, but it’s no use. There’s nowhere for me to go. My leg buckles beneath me, and the only reason I don’t fall to the floor is because of the bindings. They keep me upright, no matter how much I writhe.

A wave of nausea hits me as the pain starts to overtake me.

“There’s no point in fightin’,” the arsehole says to me. ‘It’s happening one way or another.”

“Why?” I cry, tears streaming down my face. My stomach flips and contracts. I can’t fight it. Bile crawls its way up, and I’m unable to keep it at bay. I vomit as snot and tears roll down my face.

“This is only the beginning,” the fucker tells me with a wicked grin.

Darkness starts to pull at me once again.

“You should have never disrespected the Kelly’s.”

What? This is because of them? My biological family? But why? Why would they do this to me?

The bastard with the poker moves away from me, and my body sags with relief that it’s over, but the pain is unmistakable. It rises through my body as yet another wave of nausea hits me. Just like moments before, I’m unable to stop it. My stomach rolls and rolls with sickness. The vomit just keeps coming.

My body is completely spent from the pain and sickness. When the darkness calls once again, I welcome the abyss.

CHAPTER EIGHT

PYRO

Ten days later

“Yo, Py,” Ace shouts as he walks through the forecourt of our custom ride store. Over the years, we’ve grown exponentially. It started out with the club just fixing rides, but a few brothers came along who were able to custom build them, and from there, it exploded. We now do bikes and cars. People come from all over the country to have us build a ride for them.

I give my president a chin lift as I hand the keys to a customer. He’s a happy man, one who’s going to return. They usually do. The dude’s just dropped almost fifty grand to have his bike restored. He’s a new customer who has a couple of cars he wants to be restored too. Meaning when he returns, he’ll be spending a couple of hundred grand on his cars.

“You got a sec?” he questions as he walks up to me, his brows knitted together and his jaw clenched. Shit. What’s happening now?

My spine straightens as he tilts his head in the direction of his office. What the hell is going on now? We’ve had five years of relative peace, but the look on his face tells me that could all be changing.

“What’s happened?” I ask once he closes the door behind us.

“Pepper,” he bites out. “She’s fuckin’ with Preach, Py. He’s going to fuckin’ kill her before the baby’s born.” I shake my head. I’ve no fucking idea what the hell is wrong with her and Bubbles. The two of them were the women the brothers went to most. They were up for everything and anything. Most of the time, when bored, the women would play with each other, knowing it would only be a matter of time before a brother or two joined in. But when some of the brothers started taking old ladies, the women changed.

“You talked to him? What the fuck happened?” I ask.
