“I don’t know,” I whimper. “Until you took me, I had no idea that the Kelly’s hated me.” Tears cascade down my face, and my body trembles as the fucker’s fingers dig into my cheeks.

“You’re a fucking better actress than I thought. Who’d have thought that the fucking Kelly princess was so good at lying?” His laughter sends chills down my spine.

“I swear to you, I’m telling the truth,” I manage to choke out. “And I’m not a Kelly princess.” No, I’ll never be that. I’m a Gallagher. No matter what my blood is, I’ll always be a Gallagher.

His laughter has goosebumps standing on the back of my neck.

“You are the Kelly Princess. Uncle Sean wants his granddaughter back, but first, he wants her to learn some fuckin’ manners. So, I’ll ask again, what does Sean want to know?”

I wrack my brains, trying to think back to what it could be, but nothing comes to mind. I sob, my body bucking with every sob that wracks through it. “I don’t know.”

“What a fucking waste,” the man growls, his fingers digging into my cheeks hard enough to lift my head up and make me stare at him. “You’re a fucking bitch.”

“Fuck you,” I spit back.

“Oh, lookie here… we’re finally gettin’ the true you,” he snarls. “Now, what does Sean want to hear?”

His fingers dig deeper into my cheeks. He’s going to leave bruises.

“That he’s an arsehole?” I say through clenched teeth.

“You fucking Gallagher cunt! You’ll learn,” the bastard hisses. He bites down on my lip, and I taste blood in my mouth. I can’t help but choke on the warm, coppery taste. His laughter infuriates me. I don’t even think; I spit the blood out in his face.

“Cunt,” he snarls. He slaps me hard, right across the face. The pain is intense, and my head snaps to the side. “Fuck you too.”

He laughs. He pulls back the gun and aims it at my face. He’s going to kill me, and he knows it.

The door bursts open but the bastard doesn’t move. He’s focused on me, on the gun pointed at my head. Panic seizes me. He’s going to kill me now. I’m going to die here, and no one is going to find me until it’s too late. My eyes well up with tears. The fear of dying, of never seeing my family again is stark and palpable.

“Get the fuck away from her,” I hear growled, and my heart stutters.

There’s no way. I must be hearing things. James can’t be here. Can he?

“I said, get the fuck away from her,” he growls again.

“Don’t be stupid now, Matthew,” a man with a very posh English accent says, his words edged with anger. “We both know that this shit is done. Every member of this club is about to meet their maker, and judging by Pyro’s face, I’m going to say you’ll be the first one.”

Oh. My. God. It is James.

He’s here.

My body shudders as the arsehole presses the barrel of the gun to my forehead. But it doesn’t matter. I’m in shock. Of all the people to find me, I never thought James would be the one.

My heart stutters when I hear footsteps move closer to me. I close my eyes, not wanting James to see me like this. I have no doubt that I’m battered and bruised and look awful.

The pressure of the gun on my forehead suddenly goes away, and within seconds, hands are touching my face. The warmth and gentleness in the touch has me flinching in surprise.

“Little Bird,” James’ deep voice says, “it’s only me. Are you okay?”

“Yes,” I croak, but pull away when he tries to touch me again. I don’t want him to see me like this. I’m dirty and in need of a shower. These animals have touched me, and James shouldn’t have to see me like this.

“We’ll get you home, baby,” he promises me.

The darkness calls to me once again, and I feel my body start to sink into the abyss.

“Thank you,” I whisper hoarsely. “For finding me.” My words are slurred as the darkness takes me once again. This time when I succumb to it, I have hope that when I wake up, I’ll finally be free.
