I nod. I’ll be making a call to Kinsley and asking her to make up my room so that it’ll be ready for Chloe. I press a kiss against Chloe’s head. “I’ve got a few calls to make. It’ll give you time to say goodbye to your parents.”

She smiles up at me and nods. “Okay, James.”

I fucking love the way she says my name.

“I’ll see you soon, Little Bird.”

I leave her and her folks in the room and pull out my cell. It’s time to call Kinsley.

I’ll be going home soon, and fuck, I’ll feel better knowing my woman is with me.

CHAPTER EIGHTEEN

CHLOE

My footsteps are uneasy as I walk into the Fury Vipers clubhouse. I have James on one side and Ace on the other. Both men are ready to catch me if I fall. I’m weak, a lot weaker than I thought I’d be, especially considering I’ve been pumped full of drugs and fluids. Right now, I’m on so much pain medication that it makes me unable to stand and walk properly.

“You okay, baby?” James asks softly. His beard brushes against my ear, causing me to shiver. God, the man makes me feel so safe and wanted. Even when I’m feeling like shit and undesirable, he makes me feel as though I’m the only woman in the world.

“I’m just tired,” I say as I rest my head against his arm. I slept through the entire flight from Indianapolis to New York and have slept most of the time since I was found. I just can’t seem to stay awake for more than an hour at a time.

“We’re nearly there,” he assures me as he presses his hand against my back. Heat spreads through me.

“Chloe,” I hear gasped. I turn from looking at James to see Kinsley rushing toward me. It’s been years since I’ve seen her. The last time I did was about eleven years ago. I was six or seven. Kinsley used to come to Ireland during the summer with Makenna. I used to love seeing her.

She comes to a halt just in front of me, her eyes wide as she takes in my bruises.

“I’m okay,” I assure her as I step away from my two bodyguards and fall into her arms.

“Girl, you’re gorgeous, but Christ, you’ve been done over. Are you sure you’re okay?”

I nod against her. “I’m alive, Kins. I’m breathing. That’s the main thing, right?”

Her arms tighten slightly around me. “Yeah, Chlo, that’s the main thing.”

I know what happened to Kinsley. I’ll never know the pain she’s been through, and I pray that I never do. She’s amazingly brave and strong, and I’m in awe of her. Always have been. I cried when I found out what happened to her. Kinsley has always been a part of our family. She’s Makenna’s best friend. Closer than that. She’s like Makenna’s sister, and every one of us adore her. Seeing her again makes me happy, especially when I see her looking so happy.

“You look dead on your feet,” she says. “Will you be okay with me and the girls bringing you upstairs while the guys talk?”

I smile at her, loving that she’s still the same girl that I remember; sweet and caring but a complete badarse if ever there was one. Then again, her best friend is my aunt, and my aunt Makenna is certifiably crazy on most days.

“Yeah, that’s fine. I may be a little slow.”

She smiles softly at me. “That’s okay. We’ll be right with you.”

Hands wrap around my waist.

“Let me introduce you to everyone,” James says. “You know Kins. She’s with Stag.” He points to a bald man with a thick black beard. I’ve heard about Stag. Makenna says he’s the perfect guy for Kinsley, and that’s all we could have wanted for her. “This is Effiemia, and she’s with Mayhem.” He points to a gorgeous woman who looks like she’s taken inspiration on how she dresses from an Emo. Her guy is kind of scary with the scar that runs jaggedly along his jaw. The guy nods at me, and Effiemia smiles.

“This is Octavia. She’s a schoolteacher, and Digger is her man.” He points to a guy who looks to be around my dad’s age. He, too, has a long beard. His hair is long and tied at his nape. The two of them give me a smile, and Octavia waves.

“This is Ace’s woman, Andromeda.”

Oh wow. She’s beautiful. Her eyes are filled with hurt, and I swallow hard at the look in them. She gives me a bright smile.

“Welcome, Chloe. We’re happy to have you here. Shall we get you settled in bed?”

I love how sweet the women are. Each of the old ladies are looking at me with such tenderness that I want to cry. James’ hands tighten on my waist, and I turn to look at him.
