Kinsley moves forward and reaches for her. She pulls her out of the bed and drags her to her feet. Pepper has no regard for herself or the baby she’s carrying, but Kinsley’s not rough with her, nor is she hurting her.
“Where did you get the drugs?” she asks, gripping her chin between her fingers and forcing Pepper to look at her. “Who gave them to you?”
“What’s it to you?” Pepper slurs.
Kinsley grips her face tighter. “Answer me.”
“Bubbles,” Pepper snarls. “Why do you care?”
“You’re carrying our niece or nephew and taking drugs. Are you trying to kill the baby?”
“You don’t care about me,” she screams in Kinsley’s face. “You only want the baby. So why should I care about it?”
“Listen, bitch,” Kins snarls. She’s in her face, angrier than I have ever seen. “If you don’t fix your shit, you’re dead. Do you understand me? Anything happens to this baby, your ass is going to be six feet under. You have a choice to make, Pepper. Do you want to live? If you do, you’d better sort your shit out, because if you don’t, you’ll be dead before you can even blink.”
Kinsley’s words seem to hit her, and she flops onto the bed and sighs. “Fine. Whatever. I prefer to keep my ass alive. Now, do you mind? This is my house, and I don’t want you here anymore.”
I bark out a laugh. She’s fucking joking, right?
It’s Ace who speaks up. “This isn’t your house, bitch. You’re here so we can keep a very close eye on you. You just continue to fuck up. The leash we have on you has just shortened. You’re now being monitored twenty-four-seven.”
Tears start to fall from her eyes, but they have no effect on any of us. She’s fucked up beyond belief, and the timer of her death is on. We’re all counting down the days until she gives birth. The baby will be cared for. He or she will be a Viper, and that’s all that matters.
“You’re on your last warning, Pepper,” Kinsley says with a glare. “One more foot out of line, and we’ll make sure you go into early labor. We’ll have the best doctors looking after the baby to ensure it’s survival. The same can’t be said for you.”
“Preach,” Ace grunts. “Fix the door. We’re goin’ to find Bubbles.”
I grin. It’s about time that bitch got what’s coming to her. She’s been trying to get between Prez and his old lady, and she’s just been a bitch to the younger club whores. She’s been banned from the clubhouse, and yet the bitch managed to worm her way back on the pretense of helping Pepper. Not anymore.
“Yo, Py,” Raptor shouts. “You may wanna get in here. Your woman’s about to lose her shit.”
I’m moving without thinking, my feet pounding on the ground as I run toward him. What the fuck has happened? I left her, and she was happy, glad to be out of the room and to be around Kinsley and Octavia. Now she’s about to lose her shit? Whoever the fuck has upset her is going to feel my fucking wrath.
CHAPTER TWENTY-TWO
CHLOE
“You feeling okay?” Octavia asks as she sets a cup of coffee in front of me.
“Better now that James has let me out of the room for the day,” I say as I take a sip of the coffee and moan at how amazing it tastes. “Thank you.”
She gives me a warm smile. “Anytime. I’m just glad you’re feeling better. You look it. Your bruises are fading.”
“Thank God,” I breathe, then bring the coffee mug up to my mouth and take another sip.
“How did you manage to get Pyro to let you out of the room?” Tavia asks.
Eda and Kinsley laugh. “Girl, you don’t need to ask what made the man change his mind. How do you get Digger to do what you want?”
Octavia’s cheeks redden as she blushes. “That explains it.”
I can’t help but laugh at how shy she’s being. “I couldn’t stay in there any longer. I was going stir-crazy.”
“Kins,” Raptor says from the doorway. “Ace needs you,” he says.
She gets to her feet and gives me a warm smile.
“I’ll be back in a bit. Stay with Tavia, okay?” she tells me, and I nod. The women have been so amazing and have helped me a lot while I’ve been here. It’s almost been a week since I last saw my parents, and I want to go home, but I can’t leave James.
