“Same. Go, get your woman and get ready. This shit’s gonna be over soon, Py.”

I smile. Fuck, the relief at hearing those words hits me hard. “A-fuckin’-men.”

Ace’s laughter follows me back up the stairs. Twenty-four hours and that cunt will be dead, Chloe will be safe, and I can finally claim her properly.

Twenty-four hours and counting.

CHAPTER TWENTY-FOUR

CHLOE

My hand is sweaty. I wipe it on my jeans, but I know it’ll be sweaty again in just a minute. I look out the window, wishing this plane would just land already. My hand squeezes James’, my knuckles white and clammy, my short nails digging into his flesh. The brittle whine of the engine is making it worse. It’s driving me crazy. A bit of music would be better, not make it seem as though we’re reaching our impending doom with one mishap.

I jolt forward as the plane hits the runway. But even so, I don’t release James’ hand. God, I hate flying. Despise it. Why on earth would anyone like it? It’s the taking off and landing that has me almost close to a panic attack. James’ voice has managed to keep me calm.

“We’re here,” he tells me.

I nod as I breathe deeply through my nose. He’s not mentioned anything about what he was going to say when my da called. Just thinking about what he almost said has my heart racing. He loves me. That’s good, because I love him too. I never thought I could feel this way about someone, yet James waltzes into my life and sweeps me off my feet.

The plane comes to a halt, and I smile, gently releasing James’ hand.

“Thank you,” I whisper, a little uneasy still.

He presses a kiss against my lips, and I sink against him. God, I adore him so damn much.

“You doin’ okay, Chloe?” Ace asks as he gets to his feet.

“Grand,” I reply, hating that he, Raptor, and Preacher have seen me at my worst. “Just hate flying.”

He gives me a smile. “You’re home now. What’s first on the agenda?”

“Food,” I breathe. “God, food. Chocolate. Damn, I’ve missed proper chocolate.”

James chuckles. “I’ll get right on that, baby.” He grins. “You gonna moan like that over chocolate, I wanna be there when you do.”

I feel my cheeks heat at his words. God, he’s such an arse.

“Ms. Gallagher,” I hear the cabin crew call and look to the man who’s smiling at me. “Your father is waiting for you all. We hope you enjoyed your flight.”

I hear a low, “We can see ourselves off,” and turn to James to see him glaring daggers at the poor guy.

“Thank you,” I reply sweetly as I get to my feet.

The man gives me a smile, and I know that it’ll piss James off, but I don’t care. The man is just doing his job and James is acting jealous.

Raptor’s laughter is loud and robust. “Never thought I’d see it. Pyro’s fuckin’ jealous.”

Preacher chuckles as he and Ace move toward the exit door. Raptor follows behind them, laughing loudly as he does.

My eyes drift up to James. I see that he’s still glaring at the poor guy who’s merely doing his job.

“James,” I whisper. “You’re the only one I want.”

He swings his gaze down to me, and I nearly melt. There is nothing but love and admiration in his sea-grey eyes, which crinkle at the corners when he smiles his soft smile. “Little Bird.”

Butterflies surge in my stomach. God, I love that gravelly tone he uses when he calls me Little Bird. God, I love this man. I love how he looks at me, and how he cares for me.

He slides his hands around my hips and presses a kiss against my lips. “Ready?”
