Noah Esposito, Rowan Kane, Arran Maxton, Gavin Alexander, Marco Tadesco, and Jorge Ruiz. I asked them to return to Briar House once again. Five weeks have passed since the encounter with Gideon at the marina, and in that time, no one has made a move. No one has dared now that they know the Ferryman is real and he’s back.

How he’s managed to amass the power he has in so many states is incredible. He’s done it by staying under the radar for years. Remaining in the shadows, just out of sight. Right under our noses, yet invisible. The way his father did.

With Carina by my side and Sofia safely on her way to California, I’m free to declare war on this bastard.

“Can we all agree that it’s time to put an end to this threat?” I ask the men sitting around the dining room table. “Over the last few weeks, his attacks on our business have increased. The Colombians won’t even talk to me anymore. He’s got them selling him my shit, and he’s sneaking into my goddamn city and making money off it.”

Anger fills my veins just speaking it.

“How do you propose we stop him?” Maxton asks.

“An alliance. We work together just as the men before us did, and we bring him down.”

“An alliance?” Noah smirks. “We’d kill each other.”

I shake my head. “You and I are proof that a truce can work. New York is Sinacore territory, and you left unscathed.”

“That’s because I saved your fucking ass,” he huffs.

“Exactly,” I say.

“I don know about an allayance. I jus came for the show,” Ruiz quips. “Maybe this time, jou can fuck with the door open so we can see.”

Everyone ignores him.

“Who would head the alliance?” Gavin asks. “Are you nominating yourself?”

“Wait a fucking minute,” Tadesco interrupts before I can respond. “So you’d run the alliance? You’d appoint yourself king over our families?”

“Who the fuck died and made jou king?” Ruiz chimes in again.

“My brother,” I hiss. “He died trying to save all of your asses. He risked ridicule and even his life to bring you together to fight the threat you refused to see.” I straighten my spine. “But I won’t be king. This isn’t the mafia, boys. We will not play by the same rules. And when it’s over, you can all reclaim your empires.”

“Fuck this shit. I’m out.” Jorge Ruiz pushes back on his chair, the grating sound echoing through the room.

“Anyone else?” I demand, peering into the hard faces of the men.

Two more go, leaving behind only Noah Esposito, Rowan Kane, and Gavin Alexander.

I don’t have to ask why they stayed. Their reasons would all be different but for one thing—they all want to see Gideon Black dead.

Carina steps into the room holding a box, and all the men’s eyes stray her way.

“Boys,” she says as she sets it down on the long table.

“Is your wife serving as secretary now?” Rowan asks.

Carina turns a deadly stare on him just as Gunn covers his mouth to stifle his laughter. Then a smile that would scare the hair off a cat curves her lips upward. “Rowan Kane, is it?”

He flicks a glance my way before returning her smile. “Yes, ma’am.”

She opens the box and from it produces a small razor blade and a document, then places them in front of him. “You’re a tech wiz.”

He takes the blade and brings it in closer for inspection. “I am. I… Just what the fuck is this for?”

Ignoring his question, she says, “You’re our new tech.” Then she moves on to Gunn and places a blade and a document in front of him. “Assassin.”

He arches a brow. “Of course.”
