Istareatthedoor Dani exited long after she’s gone because holy fucking shit, Dani is Liam’s aunt.Mind blown. Things just got a little more interesting. Question is, what do I do with this information? I was going to tell her then and there, but when she all but kicked me out, I held off. Now I’m wondering if I should wait to see if she figures it out for herself. We're bound to run into each other soon so surely that won't be too long. And it could be fun.

Shrugging my shoulders, I walk backward a few steps, my eyes still locked on the door—though I’m not sure why. It’s not like she’s coming back. Turning around, I make my way to where I think Lucy’s office is. I’ve only been here once before with Summer, but I’m hopeful I can remember the way.

She’s walking out the door, carrying way too many bags, when I arrive.

“What the fuck, Lucy?” I say, jogging to reach her, immediately grabbing everything from her hands. “Did you quit your job? It looks like you’re packing up your entire office.”

Lucy laughs. “Nope, I had a few things for the fundraiser and was going to drop them off to…the marketing department…on my way out.”

“You mean to Dani. You were going to drop them off to Dani,” I deadpan and laugh incredulously when Lucy’s eyes widen.

“Yes.”

“So, why not say her name?” I know the answer but it’s fun to make her squirm.

“Because I forgot you knew each other,” she says with a furrowed brow. “You haven’t seen each other since Thanksgiving…right?”

Well, that answer is a lie.I raise an eyebrow and wait for her to give me a better response.

“Okay, okay. I didn’t realize you knew she worked here. So…”

Jesus.Tell me you think I’m a shit guy without actually saying it.“And you didn’t want me to know?”

Lucy runs her hand down her face and sighs. “It’s complicated, Logan.”

“What’s complicated?” I raise my hands in the air, bags and all, and frown. “Why are you acting so weird when the only reason I’m here is to drop off something for the fundraiser. Just like you’re doing now. And you said so yourself, I haven’t spoken to Dani since Thanksgiving. Other than today. I’m not pursuing her. But you just made me want to—”

“You’re right,” she says, cutting me off. “I’m making this something it’s not. Sorry, ignore me.”

My lips pull into a smile. “Thanks, I will. So, you work together, huh?” I say, moving on. “Is she an intern?”

Lucy barks out a laugh and leans back against the wall, crossing her arms over her chest. “You think she’s a student?”

“Isn’t she?” I ask because I could have sworn…

Lucy shakes her head with a suppressed smile, cutting off my thoughts. “How old do you think she is?” she asks, her smile sneaking through.

“My age?” I squeak out, almost certain I’m about to be proven wrong.

“Nope, she’s twenty-nine.”

“What?!Nooo. Nope. She is not.”

Lucy nods again, this time with an obnoxious smile on full display. “Oh, she absolutely is. See what I mean? You are not the right guy for her. She needs someone more mature, someone settled, someone she didn’t meet buck naked after he’d just hooked up with someone else.”

I thin my lips as I decide whether or not to be offended by that. I mean, she’s not wrong. I was buck naked, and I’m not at all settled, but… “I’m mature.”

“You’re twenty-three.”

“Yes, but I’m mature for my age.”

“You’re still in college.”

“Because I deferred for two years! Do I really have to defend myself here? I thought we were friends.” I pout so she knows I’m joking. “I’m not trying to marry her.”

Lucy laughs. “See, if I thought you were trying to marry her, I might be okay with it. You know, it shows maturity,” she jokes.
