She sighs, and I hear her moving around. “Do you have a thing for Dani?”

And there it is.

I’m silent for a beat, even though I knew this question was coming because Lucy told me she and Dylan have been talking about it. But I don’t really know the answer. Okay, I do. But it’s new to me, and I’m not sure what it all means.

“Definething.”

“I knew it! Logan, this is huge.” I can hear the excitement in her voice, and it’s so out of character for her that I’m taken aback.

“God, when did we go back to high school?”

Summer bursts out laughing. “Oh. You’re right. I’m sorry. Who was that? You do you, Logan. You do you.”

I can’t help but chuckle at her quick change of tune. “You want me to be happy because you and Dylan are. I get it. But I am happy. Being single makes me happy.”

I think. At least, it did. But as Dani comes to mind, I have to wonder.

“You’re right, again,” she says, interrupting my thoughts. “But Dani’s pretty great.”

I may be confused, but I’m not going to deny that. “Yeah…she is.”

Like usual, Dani and I don’t cross paths for the rest of the week, but I don’t let a day go by without messaging her something ridiculous. Whether it’s a funny movie-related meme, an anecdote, some piece of useless information about a song lyric, or just a hello, I always message. Because Ialwaysseem to be thinking about her.

On Friday morning, my neighbors invite me over for a “Netflix and chill” session that night, and because I’m me, I say yes immediately before actually thinking it through. I’m not stupid. I can read between the lines on that one, and I have no interest in what they’re offering. It’s like my response was on autopilot and I really need to fix that. I change my answer before they’ve even confirmed a time—not even bothering to give them a reason—and when Friday night arrives, I find myself getting comfortable on my couch, pulling out my phone, and texting Dani. Not an ounce of regret. Thoughts of what could be happening next door are far from my mind.

Logan: Let's watch a movie together. Your choice. I’m on the couch ready to go

The three dots appear and disappear before she replies, and I burst out laughing.

Dani: Huh?

Logan: You said you always had quiet Friday nights, so I thought we could have one together

Dani: Are you inviting me over?

I wasn’t, butshiiit, is that an option? Because it soundswaybetter than what I had in mind. Before I can respond, Dani texts again.

Dani: Because those quiet nights I mentioned are usually spent at home

There goes that idea.

Logan: I wouldn’t say no to you coming here. I can think of a million things I’d like to do to you. But…

Shit. Delete

Logan: I wouldn’t say no to you coming here. But I actually meant that we’d each watch it at our own places

Why didn’t I send the first message?

Dani: Okay, that could be fun. What aboutArmageddon?

Good choice. Bit of action. It’s epic. I like it.

Logan: Sounds perfect, Liv. Load it up

Dani: Liv, huh?

Logan: You finally stumped me; I can never remember her character's name. So, you’re Liv, and I’m Ben
