“Good, I’m glad. But you probably should go over there.”

Logan shakes his head with a slight frown. “She’s with my grandparents. She’s okay. I wouldn’t have left her if she wasn’t.”

His frown deepens, and his brow creases.

Why do I feel like I just added to his guilt by mentioning his mom?

“I meant foryou, Logan. You should go there foryou.”

“I’m good; I don’t need anyone.”

“Including me?” I joke, trying to bring the smile back to his face.

“I’ll always need you,” he says and then looks away, lost in thought.

His mom calls him back at that moment, and they chat for a few minutes while I make myself useful cleaning our dishes from the day. When they hang up, he seems a little brighter, which makes my leaving easier on us both.

“It’s getting late…” I trail off.

“Sorry for keeping you so long. I didn’t mean for that to happen,” Logan says as he pulls me in for a goodbye hug and presses his lips to my forehead. “Thank you. For staying.”

My heart pounds in my chest as a tingle runs through me, but I manage to focus and keep myself on task. “You’re welcome. I’m only a call away.”

Breaking apart, Logan smiles sincerely as he runs a single knuckle slowly across my cheek, sending a shiver down my spine. “I know,” he says, sounding completely unaffected while my pulse quickens to an alarming speed.

“Good.” I nod, forcing my lips into a smile before stepping back toward the door, my eyes never leaving his. I expect him to follow, to move back into my personal space, but he doesn’t. Instead, he mimics my nod. “Good.”

We’re both silent for a beat, and I can feel the blood pumping through my veins. Rapidly moving through my body. A breath caught in my throat.

Logan squeezes his eyes shut, and when he opens them again, a look of determination crosses his face. “Fuck. I’m sorry.”

My brows furrow. “What are you sorry fo—”

He pushes me against the door, and his hands sink into my hair, cutting off my words. His lips find mine, and he groans the second we touch, causing me to gasp.

The door handle painfully digs into my back, and somewhere in the back of my mind, I realize this isn’t the right time for this, but as his tongue slips inside my mouth, I don’t want to stop. Though, I do make a poor attempt at doing the right thing. “Logan,” I gasp, pulling back only enough to whisper against his lips. “We shou—”

“Don’t stop. Unless you don’t want this, please don’t stop.”

I do want this, more than anything right now, so I rise up on my toes and wrap my arms around his neck, taking a deep breath as I do. Logan’s gaze stays locked on mine, waiting for my next move, his chest rising and falling in anticipation.

Stretching up, I brush my lips against his cheek as I whisper into his ear, making myself clear. “I. Want. This.”

The words have barely left my mouth when Logan grabs my ass in his hands and effortlessly lifts me until I wrap my legs around him.

My back hits the door again, and I cry out in pleasure when my core slides against his growing length. He unashamedly grinds against me, groaning as he does, his face burrowed into my neck.

“Fuck, I want this so much,” he moans, digging his nails into my jeans, his breath hot on my skin.

Grabbing his face in my hands, I angle his head to face me, taking in his lust-filled gaze before crushing our lips together.

A guttural sound releases from within Logan as he hoists me higher in his arms and walks me toward his room, never once breaking our kiss.

When we pass over the threshold into his space, my heart almost beats out of my chest, knowing what’s coming next.

I’ve only ever been with one man, and I knew everything about him before making that leap.

Taking the next step with Logan has my emotions in a spin. On one hand, I know what this is to him. I know sex is meaningless, and that terrifies me. On the other hand, the thought of letting go of all my inhibitions, just enjoying this for what it is, surprisingly thrills me.
