“He knows you were in Philadelphia,” she answered quietly.

Bear slapped his hand down on the table. “How the fuck would he know that?”

Jax gestured toward Becs. “After what Kyle found, we planned to have a meeting, but when Becs texted me this morning, I knew we couldn’t wait any longer.”

Brody nodded and pointed at Kyle. “Talk about what you found.”

Kyle smirked. “Our boy is lookin’ to buy some property right here in New Hope.”

“Where?” Bear growled.

“Right beside you.”

I stared at Kyle but had a sneaking suspicion I knew exactly where it was. “An old farm?”

“Yep, but most of the land out that way is. This piece butts up right against your property line. It’s surveying at a little less than eleven acres.”

“Is that where you took me?” Becs asked, and my attention shifted slowly toward her, not surprised she remembered.

“Yeah.” I cleared my throat and faced the guys. “I found that ground a while ago. Go there when I want to blow off steam.”

“Blow off steam mean drive fast?” Bear asked.

“Yeah,” I acknowledged. “It’s the perfect place. All flat ground for as far as you can see.”

“And a fantastic fucking bargaining chip,” Striker announced.

“I don’t understand,” Becs said.

“The town owns that piece of property,” Jax explained. “There was talk a few years ago of them wanting to build something. They tossed around a lot of ideas, including a shopping center, but it never got off the ground. After it’s been sitting empty this long, I have no doubt they’d be willing to sell if the price is right.”

“We know what he offered?” Bear asked.

Kyle grinned. “That’s not public information.”

I chuckled. “That stop you?”

“Nope.” Kyle put his hands behind his head. “Your boy offered a hundred k.”

“Doesn’t seem like enough, does it?”

“It’s not a desirable piece of ground.” Jax shrugged. “They may accept it. Truthfully, there isn’t much that would do well there unless he’s thinking housing.”

“But that’s not what you think he’s doing?” I surmised.

Striker snorted. “He gets that ground, he’s gonna create a bidding war.”

“I agree.” Jax nodded. “He knows about the bad blood between you and the Widows. Chances are he’s thinking the Widows might like a piece of ground that borders yours, and you might not like that very much, so he’d likely sell to the highest bidder and make a huge fucking profit.”

“What does that have to do with Manny?” Becs asked.

“Can’t say for sure.” Jax shifted his eyes to her. “But I’d bet Manny is the mastermind behind the plan.”

“And when Bear went in for Josie, Manny took notice.” Becs sighed. “So that is my fault.”

“No, it isn’t.” I shook my head. “He knew about the war between the Sinners and the Widows well before Josie walked her ass through his doors.”

“That’s true, sweetheart,” Kyle added.
