He pressed his forehead to mine and laughed. “What will?”

“Hmm…” I pretended to think about it before replying. “I’m gonna have to think about that.”

He leaned back slightly so our eyes met. “What if I told you I bought a piece of property that I plan to put a house on and I want you and Wyatt to live there with me?”

My eyes widened, and warmth I hadn’t felt in a long time filled me. “Are you serious?”

“Yeah.” He grinned.

I tried to play it off like that didn’t mean everything to me and shrugged, but that only made his smile grow wider. “That’s a good start.”

“Okay, well then what if I tell you I love you and have for a really long time. And that as soon as shit calms down, I’m gonna marry you and give my name to both you and Wyatt.”

I pressed my body against his, hating that there was any distance between us at all when he said the words I’d always hoped he’d say. “That’s helping.”

He smirked and pressed his lips against mine. “Thank you.”

I shook my head slightly. “For what?”

“When I met Tank and followed him here, I wondered why. Why this place? This club? This small town? It felt like something was pulling me here.” He lifted his hands and laid them against the side of my neck. “And then I met you, and I stopped questioning it. The day I met you was the day I decided to be a better man. And everything I am and I have is because of you.”

This time when the tears filled my eyes, I didn’t swallow them back. I wasn’t afraid to feel anymore. He gave me that by walking beside me through everything this past year.

I skimmed my hands over his chest and looped my arms around his neck. “I love you,” I said and watched him grin. “And I can’t wait to share the life you described.”

He pressed his forehead to mine. “You have any idea how happy that makes me? You’ve changed my life and given me everything I never thought I’d have. I’ll spend the rest of it trying to do the same for you.”

I pressed my lips to his and kissed him softly. “You already have.”

He smiled, but then pulled back abruptly and pulled his phone from his front pocket. “What are you doing?”

He looked up from his phone. “Callin’ Ben.”

“Now?” I asked, surprise clear in my tone. “Why?”

He pushed a few buttons and lifted the phone to his ear. “I want to get in our house before you change your mind, and with everything else coming up, I need to get a plan in place to get that started.”

I laughed. “And you thought the time to make that call was right now?”

I listened when he said hello to Ben and started talking about his house ideas, but my thoughts were on my mom. Staring at him while he talked, I finally understood the love my parents had for each other. I finally understood that all the hell they went through made their love strong and powerful. Their love was tested and strained, but it never broke. It only endured.

I thought their love was one of a kind and something I would never experience.

But now I know Race and I always had that love.

We just had to face our fears before we could embrace it.

Epilogue

Race

Standing in the field I’d driven through so many times over the years, I watched as the guys finished pouring the concrete for the track. Excitement filled me when I realized I’d be on that track in the next few months. I didn’t even have a fucking car to race yet because we’d been so busy at work and getting construction started on the house, but I’d get one ready. My fingers were almost twitching with the need to wrap around a wheel and feel the power beneath me while I shot toward the finish line. Between this track and the house we were building, I had more than I ever thought I would.

I heard a whistle and looked over my shoulder to see Becs heading my way with Wyatt on her hip.

“Can’t tell what looks better, the man or the track?”

Laughing, I turned to fully face her. She was almost to me when Wyatt squealed and held out his arms to me. I lifted him and blew on his belly just to hear him laugh harder before settling him on my hip.
