“How was the drive?” I asked.

“Long.” Uncle Theo laughed. “For two oldies like us.”

Dad grunted and looked over my shoulder, curiosity filling his expression. “Looks like you’re putting in a racetrack.”

“That’s exactly what we’re doing.” I rocked back on my heels when his eyes met mine. “Just bought this property along with a construction company and mechanic.”

His eyebrows shot up. “A partnership? You sure you can do that? You’ve always liked working alone.”

He was right, and he wasn’t being confrontational. He was only pointing out the obvious about who I once was. But I wasn’t that guy anymore. “Not anymore.”

“Good.” He nodded. “Living and working alone ain’t no way to live.”

“Yeah.” I snorted out a laugh. “You mentioned that a few hundred times before.”

He laughed with me. “Guess I probably did.”

I looked back and forth between my uncle and my dad. “You planning on staying?”

“Kid, I didn’t drive that damn U-Haul this whole way filled with every damn thing we have to just turn around and drive it back.” Becs laughed beside me, which made my dad’s grin widen, but he still answered. “We’re staying. Just gotta find a place to live.”

“Bear probably can help with that,” Becs offered.

“Bear?” Dad asked.

“He’s my brother.”

“He get his nickname because of how he acts?” Dad asked with a laugh.

Becs laughed with him, but nodded. “Yeah, actually he did. My mom used to say that Bear had two moods. A teddy bear and a grizzly bear. Which bear you got depended on who you were.”

I glanced at her and smiled before facing my dad again. “He’s the president of the motorcycle club.”

Dad’s eyebrows rose. “You’re dating the sister of the president of the MC? Still living on the edge, I see.”

He and I shared a grin before I gestured behind me. “If you’re staying, I may have a job for you.” I glanced beside him at my uncle Theo. “Both of you.”

“Doing what?” Dad asked.

“Working here,” I offered. “It’s gonna be a little while before it’s up and running, but we’re gonna need to fill a lot of positions, and you know cars.”

“Hmm…might just be the best fit,” Uncle Theo said, and we shared a look. This was going to be hard for my dad. Living a life on the right path was never his style, and Uncle Theo was worried. Honestly, so was I, but this might be the way to give him the adrenaline rush he craved and do it legally.

Dad’s eyes lit, and my shoulders relaxed for the first time since he arrived. “I think it’s worth a shot.”

“Alright.” I pointed at the parking lot. “Let’s head over to the club and talk to Bear. Get a game plan.”

“Sounds good,” Dad replied. His eyes were on the track behind me, and he was smiling. With one more look, he jerked his chin up in my direction and turned toward the parking lot.

We loaded up with Wyatt still fast asleep and drove a minute down the road, parking in the lot of the clubhouse. I pulled Wyatt from the back seat who blinked and smiled at me before once again falling asleep on my shoulder. There weren’t a lot of things in the world that felt better than getting that smile from him.

Except maybe one from his mom.

We passed the prospect at the door, and I introduced him, knowing he’d be seeing a lot more of my dad and uncle until we got them settled. Once inside, Becs announced she’d go get Bear, and I pointed at the bar. “Have a seat.”

They’d only just sat down when Becs came back into the bar area followed by Bear and Tank.

I gestured toward them. “Dad, Uncle Theo, this is Bear, and you know Tank.”
