Tank jerked up his chin and stepped around Dad when he shook Bear’s hand. I waited while Uncle Theo did the same before I started speaking. “Dad and Uncle Theo are moving here. Don’t have a place to stay just yet. Wondered if we can help them out until I find them something.”

Bear considered that for a moment. “We got the room. You’re welcome to stay until you get settled.”

“Appreciate that,” Dad replied.

Tank walked behind the bar. “What are you drinking?”

“I wouldn’t say no to a beer,” Dad answered.

“Me either,” Uncle Theo added.

I walked over to stand next to Bear. “Thanks for doing this.”

Bear laid his hand on my shoulder. “No thanks needed, brother. They’re your family, so they’re our family.”

“You may not be saying that if he finds trouble.”

“He finds trouble, we’ll figure it out. Until then, give him a chance to prove he wants something different.”

I nodded and admitted what I’d only admit to a few people. “Just hope he does.”

“He came here, didn’t he?” Bear met my stare. “That’s a pretty good first step.”

Becs smiled and crossed the short distance to stand beside me just as the door pushed open. The prospect poked his head inside. “We’ve got a situation.”

“What?” Bear asked, heading for the door.

The prospect stepped to the side. “Said she’s looking for someone.”

My eyes widened, and I couldn’t contain the grin when I immediately recognized the girl who stepped through the door. “Hi. Sorry to bother you. I was just looking for Tank.”

“Who is that?” Becs whispered, but I didn’t need to answer.

The door closed behind her just as Tank said her name. “Jane.”
