I was almost to the door when Bear called out, “Race.”

I turned and faced Bear. “Yeah?”

“If you’re taking Dozer, lock the door on your way out.”

I nodded and glanced at Becs one more time, but she wouldn’t meet my stare. Turning once again, I pushed open the door, turned the lock, and motioned to Dozer who was standing next to the building, one boot against the wall, smoke coming from the cigarette hanging from his mouth.

“What’s up, man?”

I gestured toward my truck. “You’re with me.”

He dropped his cigarette and crushed it beneath his boot. “Where’re we goin’?”

“Becs’s Jeep broke down. We’re going to get it.”

“She get a ride with the chick she brought?” he asked while I rounded the front end of the truck.

We both climbed into the cab of my truck and slammed our doors while I started it up. “Yeah. Guess she stopped and picked her up.” I glanced his way and shook my head when I saw the smirk on his face. “Don’t get any ideas.”

“Why the fuck not?”

“Because Bear had his hand on her hip while we were talking.”

Dozer grunted. “Sonofabitch, he works fast.”

I snorted. “You surprised?”

“Nah, brother. I got a good look at her. Didn’t think she’d be Bear’s type. Seemed a little uptight.”

I chuckled. “You like uptight?”

“I like tits, man, not gonna lie, and she had ’em.”

“Jesus, kid. Wanna piece of advice?” I didn’t wait for him to answer before I continued. “Don’t fucking say that to Bear until you know what his plans are.”

“No shit.” He chuckled. “I’d like to live to see twenty-three.”

Seeing Becs’s Jeep, I pulled to the side of the road and threw my truck in park. We both jumped out and I walked to her Jeep, put the key in the ignition, and turned it.

Nothing.

“Battery,” I called through the open door.

Stepping out of the Jeep, I walked to the back of my truck to grab my jumper cables while Dozer popped the hood. Within minutes, we had her Jeep hooked up and running. Dozer was good with cars, but he was even better with a hammer and saw, which was why I got him a job with the Dimarcos shortly after he joined the Sinners as a prospect.

After we unhooked the cables, I tossed them back in the toolbox in the bed of my truck and headed for her Jeep. “I’ll drive the Jeep back.”

Dozer jumped in my truck, threw it in drive, and turned while pulling out, shale flying out beneath the tires. Shaking my head, I muttered, “Fucking kid,” but I was grinning because it was something I would’ve done when I was younger.

I followed him back and parked her Jeep in the parking lot close to the garage bays so Bear could easily move it in tomorrow to work on it. Hell, knowing Bear, he would probably work on it tonight so it was ready for her to use for work.

“Holy fuck!” I heard Dozer shout when he started to run across the lot. He looked over his shoulder and called out to me, “Race! Over here!”

Grabbing the phone from my pocket, I could vaguely see the shadow of a body lying on the pavement. I pulled up Bear’s contact and called him immediately.

“Yeah?”

“Outside now.”
