“When’re we gonna meet this girl?”

“You’re not,” Tank grumbled.

“What’s goin’ on, Bear? Why are we here?” Bull interrupted and saved Tank from a lot more teasing.

“Talked to Becs. She convinced Kat to work for us again.”

“Really?” Bull propped his elbows on the table. “She say how?”

I lowered my head to hide the grin. It was obvious to everyone that Bull had a thing for her, but for some reason, he never went there. Or maybe he had, and she shot him down. Either way, he seemed pretty damn happy that she was coming back into our world.

“Not really. But I’m happy to have her back on the payroll.”

“Skinner still around?” I asked.

Bear frowned. “Haven’t seen him if he is.”

“You think he’s workin’ for Hawk?”

I glanced at Bull when he asked the next question but focused on Bear when he answered. “Talked to Hawk. He said he isn’t.”

“You trust him?”

“Have no reason not to. He’s kept the Widows away just as he said, but I’m still keeping a close eye on him.”

When no one said more, he shifted his attention to Tank and me. “How’d it go?”

I glanced around the table. “You know the story?”

All the guys, including Pop, nodded, but Bull spoke up. “Any reason you didn’t tell us?”

“Needed to leave that shit behind,” I admitted. “Wanted a fresh start. Didn’t need everyone lookin’ at me like a felon.”

“You think we’d judge that?”

“No.” I shook my head. “Just wanted it to be something I could forget.”

Bull jerked up his chin. “How’s your dad?”

“Healing.” I shrugged. “I’m tryin’ to get him out of the business. He won’t survive in that world anymore. It’s changed too much over the past thirteen years. He’s not as sharp as he used to be.” I exhaled loudly, still unsure if I’d made the right decision. “Invited him and my uncle here after his probation is up.”

“That a good idea?” Ritz asked.

“Not sure,” I answered honestly. “But if I leave him there, I’ll be going back for his funeral. Not sure I can live with that, knowing I didn’t do shit to help him.” I gestured toward Tank, who was sitting beside me. “Tank got me here, and all of you gave me a chance to prove I could be better. Think he should have the same chance.”

Bull studied me. “Then that’s what we’ll give him.”

“It’s gonna be hard,” I warned them. “He’s spent most of his life runnin’ the streets.”

“What about your uncle?” Ritz asked.

I crossed my arms over my chest. “Worked his whole life at the paper mill. Never even had a traffic ticket.”

Ritz chuckled. “How the fuck are they brothers?”

Tank laughed and shook his head. “Met ’em both. They couldn’t be less alike.”

Ritz focused on Tank. “How’d you like the city?”
