“Met him once,” Bull said. “He walked fine. No limp. Nothing to suggest he couldn’t run after her.”

“No, but I think you’re on to something,” Luke said. “He didn’t need to sedate her where he held her. There has to be another reason.”

Nick rubbed his hands together. “That gives us something new to look into.”

“That’s all we got for now.” Bear jerked up his chin. “We’ll meet again when we know something.”

Everyone agreed and began clearing out of the room, only leaving Bear, Gunner, Kyle, and Nick behind with me.

I grinned when Kyle came to stand in front of Bear and me. “Thanks for taking on Leo.”

“He’s a great kid.” Kyle returned my grin. “Smart as a fucking whip. He’s gonna be a real asset to you guys if he decides to stick around.”

I tilted my head. “He talk about that?”

“A little,” Kyle acknowledged. “I can tell he’s starting to like it here, and he found a friend in Dom. Don’t get the impression he had many friends growing up.”

“They moved around a lot,” I admitted. “I did some digging and found out Cindy was always running from the cops. There was always a warrant for her arrest. Not even sure how the kid graduated from high school.”

“He picks up shit fast. I’m not surprised that he was able to start a new school and just jump in wherever they were. They probably tested him, and he placed high.”

“I knew he was smart, but I haven’t spent much time with him.”

“Gonna have to make the time.” Kyle slapped my shoulder. “You got a cool kid.”

Chuckling, I shook my head. “I’ll do that.”

We walked together until we stepped outside. I heard Nick and Gunner making plans to get together later tonight for a beer, and I wasn’t surprised. They found out last year that they’re half brothers and have been making every effort to get to know each other.

I headed toward my bike and swung my leg over, but when Bear walked with me, I didn’t start the engine, knowing he had more to say. “You headin’ to the garage?”

I should be. I knew that, but I wasn’t. It was Sunday, and I wanted nothing more than to go back to Jane’s place and crawl into bed with her. I’d left her sleeping in bed this morning, but only because I had to.

“Not plannin’ on it. You need something done?”

“Nothing that can’t wait until tomorrow,” Bear admitted. “How’s she doing?”

I studied him for a minute. I was always impressed by how much Bear knew about the club members. I hadn’t told him I was going to see her last night, so it must’ve been something he saw on my face.

“That obvious?”

“Had a look when you walked in this morning. Figured she at least agreed to hear you out.”

I chuckled. “You figured right.”

“She like working for Bree?”

“Loves it, and she’s really fucking good at it.”

He crossed his arms over his chest. “She moving closer?”

“She’s talking about moving to Cranberry near Bree so they can work together easier.”

“Bree’s place is only a twenty-minute drive from here. Not too bad,” Bear pointed out.

I snorted. “That’s about fifteen minutes too far.”

He laughed. “Happy for you, brother.”
