“Tank!” I slowly lifted my head and glanced behind Jane. “Where the hell are you? I can’t see any-fucking-thing out here.”

Laughter rang out, but it was only when I looked down to see Jane laughing that I grinned. “Who is that?”

“Blaze,” I replied. “He was a prospect but was pledged in as a member this morning. This party is to celebrate him.”

“If it’s his party, you better see what he needs.”

“Yeah, okay.” I agreed, but I hesitated, not wanting to walk away. “Give me a minute?”

When she nodded, I walked around her toward the bar where Blaze had just sat and was talking to Race. “What the fuck do you want?”

“Hey!” Blaze twisted to face me. “I was looking for you.”

“I know.” I chuckled. “Why?”

Without answering, he glanced over my shoulder and whistled. “Who’s that?”

Confused, I looked over my shoulder and saw Jane’s cousin Rachel walking across the lawn. Shaking my head, I met his stare. “Leave her alone.”

His glassy eyes met mine, and he smirked. “You already claim her or what?”

“No, but she’s only here for tonight, trust me.”

He wiggled his eyebrows and stood up but wobbled a minute on his feet before righting himself. “That’s exactly my type.”

I considered stopping him from following her but then decided against it. He was harmless, and I had my doubts he’d even make it to her before his drunken ass forgot where he was headed.

“You worried about that?”

My attention shifted to Race leaning against the bar but facing the lawn. “Nope. He doesn’t stand a fucking chance with her anyway.”

Race chuckled and snorted. “Looks like a redhead just stopped him.”

My eyes scanned the yard until they found Jane speaking with Rachel and Becs. It looked like Rachel and Becs were doing most of the talking, and Jane hung back, but it was dark, and the light from the fires only allowed me to see so much.

“You sure bringing her here was a good idea?”

Surprised to hear a different voice, I turned my head to see Bear joining us and standing on my other side. He was talking to me, but his eyes were locked on Josie moving toward us.

“No,” I admitted.

“Why did you?”

I exhaled heavily. “Already told you. She wants to figure some shit out about herself. Asked me for help. I’m just trying to give her the space to do that.”

“You sure that’s all it is?” he asked.

Josie shimmied between us when she reached the bar and signaled for the prospect handing out drinks. “Four sangrias.”

“You got it, Josie.”

“You still ignoring me?” Bear asked, and Race chuckled beside me. I had no idea what happened, but Bear and Josie fought all the time, so I wasn’t surprised.

She raised her eyebrow and tilted her head back to see him. “You still being a stubborn jackass?” When he didn’t answer right away, she shook her head. Picking up the cups, somehow holding two in each hand by only the lip, she backed away from the bar. “I see that you are. I’m hanging out with the girls tonight.”

Race whistled. “Fuck, man, what did you do?”

“Doesn’t matter. I’ll fix it.”
