I laughed. “You ever get tired of fighting?”

He grinned while he watched her walk away. “Nope.”

I could see Josie handing out drinks to the girls, and then she stood next to Jane and started talking. That was good and what I’d been hoping for when I invited Jane here. Josie was a school psychologist, so if anyone could help her figure out her path in life, it would be Josie.

We watched them drink a little more before Becs ran up to the bar. She wrapped her arms around Race’s neck and smiled. “I’m having a great time.”

Race laughed. “Yeah, I can see that.”

She leaned around him and shouted to the prospect. “Need four shots of vodka.”

“Gotcha, Becs.”

When he replied, she turned her smile on me. “I like your girlfriend, Tank.”

I snorted and took a drink of my beer. “Not my girlfriend.”

She ignored me, just as I’d expected. “Now we need to find someone for Rachel.”

“Baby”—Race wrapped his arms around her waist—“I don’t think that’s a good idea.”

She tilted her head to the side. “Why not?”

“Because they don’t exactly fit into our lifestyle.”

“Neither did Josie, but my brother somehow got her to stay.” She gestured toward Bear, and he grinned.

“Josie’s different than Jane,” I replied.

“How?”

“Josie knows her own mind.”

“I think you’re underestimating your girlfriend.” She grabbed the plastic shot glasses and smiled. “That’s never a good idea.”

She pressed her lips to Race’s for a quick kiss before crossing the lawn again. I watched them all lift their cups and call out something before throwing back their shot.

“How do you expect this to end?” Bear asked.

“No idea, brother,” I admitted.

When the music changed, I knew that was Becs’s doing and watched all four girls start to dance to some awful pop song.

“Jesus.” Race sighed. “Becs is controlling the music now.” Chuckling, I glanced at my friend when he continued. “She has the worst taste in music.”

“She does.” Bear lifted his cup in their direction. “But we owe her a thank-you.”

“Why?”

“Because of that.”

I shifted my attention to the girls, who had all started dancing. Jane threw her head back and laughed while bouncing on her toes, her drink cup lifted to the sky, all while singing along. When more girls joined in, I knew no one was changing the fucking music.

“You’re smiling, brother.”

I glanced at Bear. “So what?”

“Haven’t seen that in a long fucking time.”
