“Just slept with my hand on your ass, sweetheart. Think it’s okay that you tell me you don’t sleep with pants on.”

My stomach once again flip-flopped when I remembered how it felt to have his hand on my naked skin. I didn’t understand my reaction because it was never like that with David. It was nice being with him, and he always made sure I had a good time, but I never had these feelings without him touching me. But now, standing in this room, I could feel the wetness in my panties and knew that had everything to do with how I woke this morning.

“Sorry I was sleeping so close.” I apologized.

“I sound like I was complaining?” he asked.

Still not making eye contact, I searched the room for my purse. “Still, I didn’t mean to inconvenience you.”

Tank pushed off the bed and stood. “Who am I talking to now?”

My head snapped up, and I faced him, trying not to let my eyes drop when I saw he was only wearing sweatpants. Thin sweatpants that in no way hid the bulge in the front.

Failing miserably, I forced my eyes up and processed what he just asked. “I don’t understand what you mean.”

He crossed his arms over his chest. “I spent last night with Jane and woke up with Jane, but right now, it feels like I’m talking to Jane’s mother.”

He was. I had no idea how he knew that or how he figured me out as quickly as he had. I spent my whole life learning how to behave and act in every situation. My upbringing wouldn’t allow me to be anything but polite and apologetic in a situation like this, especially when I felt so out of control.

“You’re right, I’m sorry.”

He narrowed his eyes. “Quit fucking apologizing and talk to me.”

I closed my eyes in relief when I heard my ringtone but then opened them quickly and began searching for my phone. I finally found my purse on the dresser across the room. Grabbing it, I pulled out my phone, saw it was Rachel, and accepted the call.

“Hello?”

“I’m so glad you’re awake,” she said, but her voice was panicked.

“What’s wrong?”

“My mom called. She stopped by my house this morning and wanted to know why my bed hadn’t been slept in. I told her we had a movie night and fell asleep, so I just stayed at your house.”

I zipped my purse closed. “That sounds believable.”

“Yeah, it is, except she’d already stopped by your house before she called me, assuming I was there, and guess what, I’m not.”

I heard murmuring in the background but couldn’t make out more than it was a man’s voice. “What did you tell her?”

“I told her we went to breakfast and into the city to do some shopping.”

“And…”

“And she believed me, but I think I should get back.”

I nodded my head even though she couldn’t see me. “I think so too.”

“Are you ready now? Can you meet me at the car?”

“Yeah, I’m coming.”

She sighed in relief. “Okay.”

Ending the call, I shoved the phone in my purse and turned to face Tank. “That was Rachel. We need to go.”

“Yeah, I got that.” He gestured toward the door. “Want some coffee?”

I shook my head. “No thanks.” When neither of us moved, I glanced at the door and back at him. “Could you tell me how to get out of here?”
