“I’m excited to try it.” I gestured in the air. “So if this isn’t your kind of place, what is?”

“Tank?”

We turned our heads quickly when his name was called. Standing next to our table was a man and a woman.

He grinned and sat back in his seat, his eyes focused solely on her, and I felt a pang of jealousy. She was gorgeous, the exact type of woman I’d been surrounded by my whole life. She exuded confidence in how she stood and spoke, something I never seemed to learn how to do.

“Bree.”

She glanced back and forth between us before settling her gaze on Tank. “I’m a little surprised to see you here.”

He grunted. “It’s my first time.”

She laughed softly. “Yeah, Ritz told me that most of you don’t frequentVivian’s.” She glanced to her side when the man beside her touched her arm. “Go ahead to the table, Matt. I’ll be there in a minute.”

His eyes shot to Tank before nodding once and following the hostess.

Tank grunted. “That one ain’t gonna last.”

She shrugged. “We’re just having fun.”

“That’s what you say about all of ’em.”

She rolled her eyes but didn’t argue before finally looking at me and holding out her hand. “I’m Bree Dimarco. Apparently, Tank has forgotten his manners.”

He chuckled and shook his head. “Bree, this is Jane.”

We shook hands, and I smiled. “Nice to meet you, Bree.”

“Jane.” Her eyebrows pulled together before she finally smiled. “Are you the Jane who was chatting with Maddie at the coffee shop last weekend?”

Surprised she knew about that, I slid my eyes to Tank, who watched me closely, before returning to Bree. “I am. How did you know about that?”

She laughed. “This is a very small town. Plus, I know the owners of the coffee shop really well. The other owner you didn’t meet, Sydney, is married to my cousin.”

“Oh, wow.” My eyebrows shot up.

“Yeah, and let me tell you something, my cousins can gossip, so you’ve been the talk of the town this week.”

My eyes widened even further. “I am. Why?”

“Because you and your cousin drove two hours to go to a Sinners party. I’ve been to a few barbecues there over the years, and I hate the twenty-minute drive from my house.”

“Oh.” I nodded but still didn’t quite understand why that was so interesting.

She smiled and looked back and forth between us. “So how did you two meet?”

Tank grunted. “I picked her up off the side of the road.”

That made me laugh because it was actually true. His eyes shifted to me, and he grinned, which Bree definitely noticed, considering her smile widened.

“Maddie said she’s been trying to set up a girls’ night so we can get to know each other.”

“You’re coming too?” I asked.

“Absolutely.”

“I told her Rachel and I are both free next Saturday night.”
