“She likes the perks of living in her world and isn’t afraid to admit that. Doubt she’d give them up,” Ritz explained.

“I don’t think they have anything to do with it,” I interrupted. “Neither of them have been here enough for anyone to think they’re doing more than partying.”

Bear studied me. “You plannin’ on bringing her back?”

He knew I was, but he needed the confirmation. We both knew I shouldn’t bring her here, that this would blow up in my fucking face, but I wasn’t ready to let her go yet. I needed to get her out of my system, and I hadn’t done that yet.

“Yeah.” I shrugged as if it didn’t matter, but it did. “If she wants to come back. She’s got plans this weekend with Becs and Bree. Not sure who else.”

Bear focused on Ritz. “Rachel going?”

“Far as I know.” Ritz took a long drag of his cigarette.

I thought it was interesting that Ritz knew so much, and I could tell the others did too, but nobody called him out on it. Ritz dated a lot of women, and he liked the ones we’d all consider high maintenance, but he never kept them for long. The thrill was in the hunt for him, and I had my doubts that would ever change.

Especially not for a girl who didn’t want to be caught. He would eventually get bored and move on to the next.

“We need to be careful bringing in outsiders.” Bear glanced among us. “We all know what happened last time.”

The last time an outsider came into the club, she was beaten and put in the hospital by the Widows. That outsider was Josie. But this was different. Bear had been the target before, and as the president of the MC, they were willing to hurt anyone close to him. They thought that was Josie and went after her.

“Difference is, I’m not the president or vice president of this club. They don’t gain anything from targeting me or anyone close to me,” I pointed out.

“But they’re targeting you, or if not you specifically, the club, which means we have to assume we all have targets on our backs.” He glanced back and forth between Ritz and me. “If either of them is here, they’re not alone. I don’t think what happened today has anything to do with those two women. This feels like our past coming back to haunt us again, or at least that’s what my gut tells me.”

“Mine too, brother.” Gunner agreed.

Bear crossed his arms over his chest. “Then we need to be vigilant. Treat this as a threat to the club. I’ll talk to Hawk, see what I can find out. In the meantime, we’ll just go about our business. If we raise too many red flags, they may back off. I don’t know about you, but I just want this fucker to make himself known so we can handle it and move on.” When we all nodded, he slapped his hand on my shoulder and squeezed it before dropping his arm to his side. “It seems you’re the target right now or maybe you were just the easiest to get to. We can’t make it convenient for him.”

“Should someone go with the girls this weekend?” Ritz asked.

Bear sighed. “I don’t think so, but I’ll update Becs and tell her to call us if anything seems off. She knows what to look for.”

“We could send Race with her,” Gunner suggested. “Just as a precaution.”

Bear frowned. “If we have to, we will, but Becs is finally getting out again, and after everything she went through with the baby and Race, I don’t want to fuck that up for her.”

We all understood that. Becs had been through hell over the past few years, and she never once complained, but we all watched her break after she had Wyatt. A person can only take so much before saying fuck it all, and I was worried Becs had reached that point.

But I should’ve known better.

Becs wasn’t a woman to give up, and that was why I trusted her to keep the girls safe while they were out this weekend. We all did.

But that didn’t mean I wouldn’t be keeping tabs on them.

JANE

I still hadno idea how any of this happened. I’d just gotten home on Tuesday when the texts began.

Bree: Alright girls, this is the official girls’ night out text loop!

Unknown: Woo-hoo! Can’t wait!

And the messages kept coming in. Besides Rachel, I only had two other names saved in my contacts, Bree and Maddie, everyone else came up as a phone number, but before the texting was done, I’d met more girls than I’d ever known. Everyone agreed Saturday night was the best, and we decided to meet at a bar called Hank’s in New Hope. Rachel and I had no idea where that was, but Bree texted us the address, and we agreed to meet them there at eight o’clock on Saturday night.

Which was now.
