My eyes widened. “Yes, I do.”

He nodded. “Okay, give me ten minutes to clean up, and I’ll go with you.”

“Go with me?” He backed up, and I dropped my hands when he turned and walked farther into the garage. “Why would you go with me?”

“Need to make sure you come back, sweetheart.”

“I’ll come back.” I followed him while he gathered tools and loaded a large, standing toolbox. “Don’t you trust me?”

He closed a drawer on the toolbox and glanced over his shoulder. “There a reason you don’t want me in your place?”

“No.” I shook my head. “It’s not that…”

“Then what is it?”

“It’s a long drive to just pick up some clothes and a toothbrush.”

“You gonna make that drive?”

“Well, yeah, but…”

“Am I the one who asked you to stay?”

“Yeah.”

“Then what kind of fucking man would I be if I didn’t go with you and give you a hand?”

He slammed a few more drawers before shutting off a few machines and making his way to stand in front of me again. “What are you thinking so hard about?”

“You’re different,” I replied quietly, comparing him to everything I knew about the men I’d grown up with. “So different from any man I’ve known.”

Lifting his hand, he wrapped it around the side of my neck. “That’s a compliment, princess.”

When I didn’t say more, he slid his palm over my shoulder and down my arm until he could wrap his hand around mine. “Come on.”

We started toward the clubhouse instead of my SUV, which confused me. “Where are we going?”

“I need a shower.” He pulled open the clubhouse door, and I followed while he made his way to the kitchen. He poked his head inside, and I saw a man who couldn’t be more than twenty years old eating a sandwich. “Dom, I need to leave. Finish what you were working on, and then close up the garage. We’ll pick up where we left off on Monday.”

His dark eyebrows rose. “We’re not workin’ this weekend?”

“I’ve got plans this weekend.”

Dom smirked. “Got it, man.”

Tank shook his head and gestured toward me. “This is Jane.”

“Hey, Jane. I’m Dominic.”

“It’s nice to meet you. Are you a member of the club too?”

Dominic pushed off his stool and stood. “Not yet, but I will be.”

“Dom’s an apprentice in the garage and a prospect in the club,” Tank explained.

I glanced back and forth between them. “Prospect?”

“Means he’s spending time with the club so he can figure out if he wants to join us officially, and we can see if he’s a good fit.”
