I covered the phone, and my shoulders tightened when my mom’s voice rose. “Jane, who is that?”

Tank raised his eyebrows, almost daring me to tell her, but I couldn’t, and that disappointed me. “Sorry, Mom, I need to get back to what I was doing. Can I talk to you next week?”

A small drop of water dripped off Tank’s hair and slid over his temple. Without considering what I was doing, I lifted my finger and wiped it off.

“Yes, that’s fine.”

“Okay, bye…” I started, but she had already hung up.

He studied me carefully. “She pushin’ you to marry him?”

I slid my phone back into my purse. “She thinks we’re a good fit.”

His eyes shifted back and forth between mine. “You fuck him?”

My eyebrows lifted, still not used to his language. “Don’t you know any other words?”

He grinned. “Didn’t answer my question.”

I rolled my eyes. “Of course I haven’t slept with him. I just met him.”

He slid his hands from the chair to lay them on my thighs. “You hardly knew me when you slept in my bed.”

“That was different. Besides, we didn’t do anything,” I reminded him.

His eyes flicked back and forth between mine. “Maybe this douche wouldn’t be in your head if we had.”

My face flushed when memories of his hand on my butt that morning slammed into me. I didn’t consider myself a sexual person, but that one touch felt so good that I couldn’t stop imagining his hands all over my skin.

He squeezed my thighs. “You’re mine this weekend, princess. No calls from your mother and definitely no calls from that douche.”

“If my mom calls…”

“Ignore it.”

I tilted my head to the side. “You can’t tell me who I can talk to.”

He grinned slowly. “That’s true. Guess I’ll have to find ways to make sure you’re too busy to talk.”

He stood and made his way over to the dresser, where he pulled out a shirt and tugged it over his head. Grabbing his phone and keys, he faced me. “You ready?”

It only took a moment to consider his words, and I could say without a doubt that I was not ready for Tank.

TANK

She hadno idea what she was doing to me when she made those little gestures, like wiping a water droplet from my temple or staring at me when I came out of the bathroom, and that only made it sexier. Just by her expression, I knew who she was talking to the second I stepped back into the bedroom, but that all changed when her eyes slid over me. I wasn’t vain. I didn’t stay in shape for any other reason than it was critical in my life, but when her eyes heated and she watched me walk toward her, I was fucking thrilled she liked what she saw.

Never in my life had I told a woman she couldn’t talk to someone. I wasn’t a possessive guy, and I wasn’t jealous. At least I wasn’t until I met Jane. I had all these new feelings with her, but they were less about possessiveness and more about protection. I wanted to get rid of the sadness in her eyes when she talked to her mom or about the douche she was considering marrying. I wanted to see the heat and arousal in her eyes. I wanted the excitement and happiness I saw in her expression when she was dancing. I hated that they were slowly killing her spirit when she was just finding it and hoped that having one weekend without their influence might remind her of what she was ready to give up.

And maybe she would change her mind.

We were almost at her SUV when she tossed me the keys and asked me to drive. I wasn’t sure why, which only proved how little I knew about Jane.

“Why am I driving?”

She shrugged. “I drive all the time. I thought it might be nice just to ride along this time.”
