He glanced at me but then looked at Luke again. “Ford.”

Luke nodded. “How old are you?”

“Eighteen.”

Just then Luke’s phone rang, and he pulled it from his pocket. “Give me a minute.”

He answered the call and started for the door but stopped abruptly and turned to face me. When I saw the look on his face, I stood up straight and waited.

“I’m on my way.” He pulled the phone from his ear and shoved it into his front pocket. “She’s at the hospital.”

“How the fuck did she get there?”

“My officers responded to a 911 call. A man called it in. Said a woman showed up and said she was in a car accident. Thankfully when they arrived, she was coherent enough to give her name. The doctor is with her now. That’s all I know.” Luke gestured toward the door. “I’m heading there.”

“I’m right behind you.” I glanced down at Leo before meeting Bear’s eyes but didn’t need to say anything.

“Go, I got this. Keep us updated on what you find out.”

Ritz met me at the door, and we sprinted from the room and across the parking lot. It was absolutely pouring, so I pulled my truck keys from my pocket, and we both hopped in.

“I askedyou to give us a few minutes.” Luke was annoyed, and I couldn’t blame him, considering Rachel had just updated us in the hallway, and he asked me to give him a few minutes to talk to Jane alone. After the update, Rachel and Luke headed back into the room, and I paced in front of the door. I barely made it a minute before I followed them, needing to get my eyes on her.

She looked awful. Her face was swollen and littered with cuts and bruises. A large white bandage covered the cut I knew to be on her temple, and her hands were bandaged. She wore a brace on her left wrist, and I understood from talking to Rachel that it was sprained. She also had a couple of broken ribs on her left side, which experience has taught me, hurt like hell.

“Won’t say a word. Just needed to see for myself that she’s okay.”

Her eyes held mine for a second before sliding back to Luke when he spoke. “It’s up to you who’s in here while I interview you.”

“It’s okay,” she said quietly.

I listened as Luke asked her a bunch of questions we already had the answers to, but he needed to hear them from her. Like what day she left the clubhouse and where she was heading, but when he got past those, I crossed my arms over my chest and waited to hear the information I needed.

“You told the man whose house you stopped at that you were in an accident. Is that right, Jane?”

“Yes.”

“When was that?”

“Sunday,” she replied, her voice weak.

“Do you remember where you were when you had your accident?”

“Umm…” Lines appeared on her forehead, and it was easy to see she was trying to force the memories to return. “I’m not sure.”

“What happened in the accident?”

“I don’t know. I remember hearing tires squealing and being thrown forward, but then nothing until I woke up in a basement.”

“A basement?” Luke’s eyebrows lifted. “Were you alone?”

“Usually, I think. I don’t really know because I slept a lot. When I woke, within no time at all, a man would come down and give me water and a pill. He wouldn’t leave until I swallowed it, and then I’d fall asleep again.”

“Did he say anything?”
