“Pizza?” I ask.
“What do you want on it?” he asks as he places wet kisses on my neck.
“Um... I can’t think when you do that,” I share. Then spontaneously continue, “No pineapple.”
“No pineapple. Anything else?” He allows his assault to expand to my collarbone.
“No, I don’t think so.” I lean back to give greater access to my skin.
“Baby, if I don’t stop now, we are both going to wind up in your bed fucking until we both can’t move anymore,” he informed me.
I take a deep breath and force some space between us. I am led back to the living room where Cris is sitting on the sofa.
“Cris, nothing happens to Maddie.” War says. He then turns to me. “Pack for at least a week. I’ll be back soon.” One shorter hard kiss that still incites me to pull him back to me. I look forward to spending some time with War at his place.
I’m moving in, at least for a little while.
Eight
The Move
War
I chose not to inform Maddie that this was going to be the last time she stayed at her apartment. I figure we’ll get the rest of her stuff packed and moved in in the next week.
I arrive at the club with fifteen minutes to spare and am confronted by Guard as soon as I walk in. He motioned me into his office.
“So, good night?” he asked slyly.
“Good enough.” I reply.
“I am going to make the announcement that you are making Maddie your old lady. Any objections?” he asks.
“Why announce it?” I counter. I don't care that my club brothers know my intentions with Maddie, but I don't think that it's anyone else's business.
“Because when Ava came into my life, I announced it and asked if there was an issue. It’s respect for the rest of the club.” Guard is set on making sure there are no unforeseen problems in the club and wants everything above board.
“I got no problem with announcing it but why does it have to be when every other club is here?” I want to keep everything low key for Maddie’s sake.
“I am making a point here,” Guard says in frustration. “Last night could have gone really bad. Getting everyone in our club on board makes for a united front. You wanted me to have your back and I do. Your club has your back too.”
“Yeah, I know it does.” I start to reply but am stopped.
“Then shut the fuck up and let us make it known that Maddie is untouchable to anyone but you,” Guard states firmly.
He has never steered me wrong and I’ve got to trust that this is the right thing to do. I nod, and we make our way back into the common area where all five clubs from surrounding areas are holed up waiting for Guard to start.
Guard goes through a list of topics and gets input from the other clubs on the business side of things. We talk about the ways we can help one another and where each of us draws the line. We are all pretty much in sync and Guard has worked diligently to see that our clubs work together in peace. He’s a great leader and Orion, who has been his right hand since I’ve been around, is a huge grounding force for our club. Orion stays silent most of the time but has his ear to the ground and knows what’s happening before anyone else.
We are close to shutting things down when Guard says, “Since we’re here, and I know War wants to make it official, he wants to make Maddie his old lady. I have no objections to this and am asking our club members if there are any concerns.”
He looks around the room to rumblings of, “about time you took a woman” and “fuck, you lucked out”. Guard moves to close the meeting and hears from a Rebel clan leader, “I can understand why you want her, but she comes with baggage. She could be more trouble than you need. Heard about her stalker. You want that shit in your club?”
I walked to the middle of the room, completely pissed that they think I’d back down because of some idiot teenager with a crush on my woman. “I think I can handle any trouble.”
Then Risk pipes up, “Maddie is one of us. We all take responsibility to keep her safe.”
Demon slams his hand on the table and nods his acceptance and Guard says, “Maddie is ours and if a devoted member wants this woman, we make room for her.”
