"I know you’re hoping to get this guy and save Maddie from any of this but if my sources are reliable, and you know damn well that they always have been, I think you need to have her on alert. She is already telling Vi she thinks it's ridiculous she has to have someone accompany her to the grocery store and she is getting suspicious,” Orion states. I know Maddie is getting frustrated with all the chaperones. She still thinks it's because of the other clubs and is now thinking I’m paranoid.
"Yeah, I know,” I sigh, "Before I tell her, I want to know what you have found."
"Look, man, you’ve got to trust me. I think the best thing to do is get Guard, Ava, and Vi together with you two and get it all out at once. The girls will be able to provide support. I know Vi has figured out a huge part of this on her own. She knows shit is going down,” he continues. "With everyone around, she will feel safer and know that we’ve all got her back."
"I trust you. I trust all of you. You want to set it up and come by in an hour?" I ask. I dropped my eyes to my boots, contemplating the possible reactions that might arise when Maddie hears all that's been going down.
"I'll get it together. And don't worry, bro, we do this, and nothing is going to get to her. She’s part of our Pride pack. Nothing touches her,” he states firmly. I know he’s speaking from the heart. Orion never says shit he doesn't mean. He doesn't sugar-coat, and he doesn't falsify or embellish, he's a straight shooter. He plans, he executes. Steady as a rock, sometimes too steady and too cold. I know that shit wasn’t always good for Orion. He has such a tight hold on his emotions that I wonder how he’s able to let Vi into his life. I am happy that she has taken root in his life though; he deserves it. She has been chasing his demons away and doesn't even know it.
I slide the phone back into my pocket and make my way back to Maddie. She is sitting cross-legged on one end of the sofa, head down jotting down her notes, the other hand cradling her guitar. "Hey, Baby, you ready to take a break soon?"
Her head pops up looking a little bewildered. "What time is it? How long have I been at it?" Then she proceeds to apologize. "I'm so sorry, Honey. I lost all track of time."
I raise my hand to stop her. "I like hearing you and seeing you at work, Kitten." I walk over to her and slide in next to her, placing my arm over the back of the sofa, sifting my fingers through her thick soft hair. Maddie moves her work to the side. Her head tips back to meet my gaze. Her eyes and smile light up her face.
"Do you want to hear this new song I’m working on?" she beams.
"Absolutely."
Her fingers nimbly worked the strings, creating a sweet melody. She closes her eyes and begins to sway in time to the music and then the sultriest sound escapes those sweet lips. Completely intoxicating.

She stops slowly, like she’s emerging from a sexy dream, her eyes flutter open, again looking up at me.
I am awestruck. This song is us.
I caress her cheekbone, feel her soft peachy skin, dip my head to taste the lips where the sweetest words were sung. I take her into my arms and nestle her close to me.
"That was beautiful, Baby," I say gruffly. My voice and heart are filled with emotions that I thought were long dead. "I will never leave you behind and if for whatever reason we are ever separated, I will come for you. This is us. Now and forever."
Her lips reach my chin. "I know."
"We have company on the way," I announce. "Vi, Orion, Ava and Guard are dropping by. You cool with that?"
"Sure. I love those guys." Maddie bubbles with excitement.
I hate that I have to drop this bomb on her. But the plan will be solid. She won't be left out there unprotected and dangling.
