“Hey, you’re not supposed to be working today!” the redhead scolded when she saw him.

He pulled her to the side. “I need a favor, can we talk?”

Come on feet, work!

Kayleigh stared up at the building, that bright neon sign that was beckoning to her, willing herself to find the confidence to go inside.

“I believe in you. You can do this, I swear,” Ben called to her. She turned to meet his eyes and something in them spurred her on. She could do this. He believed in her, he justknewshe could do it.

Resolve fused her spine, pushing her feet forward, one in front of the other until she felt Kayleigh 2.0 take over. One hand on the door, she shot him a smile that saidyou’re right, I can do this, and then she went inside.

The studio was split into two halves with metal poles reaching floor to ceiling. Some women were already wrapping themselves around them, contorting into impossible shapes and Kayleigh watched with awe. Low music pumped out and the lights dimmed. Other women sat on the polished wooden floor, their legs spread in deep stretches.

“Hi, welcome toIntrigue. Is this your first time?” A woman appeared next to her. Kayleigh tore her eyes away from another who was spinning around and around on the pole, lowering herself towards the ground.

“Yes,” Kayleigh replied, then faced the woman. She looked to be in her mid-forties, her copper hair pulled back into a high ponytail, some threads of silver shining in the light. Freckles scattered across her nose but left her cheeks clear. She wore large silver earrings, a chunky necklace and a black tank top with black short shorts.

“Have you ever done any pole work before?” the woman asked.

Kayleigh shook her head.

“A true beginner, so exciting!” the woman squealed and gestured for Kayleigh to follow her. She took her bag and asked Kayleigh to remove her shoes and socks.

“I’m Sandi and this is my business. I have two rules: no pro moves until I say you’re ready and no comparing yourself to others in the class. I’ll teach you the basics. Do not try and run before you can walk as that’s how people get hurt. What’s your name, hon?”

“Kayleigh.”

“And what drew you here in the first place?”

Kayleigh looked around at the other women. Some just trying to pull themselves up the pole and struggling, some in complicated poses, some swaying their bodies sensually to the music. There were definitely different levels of experience here and she felt less intimidated at seeing the beginners.

“I want to do something different, something exciting. I want to be sexy, to feel strong and capable,” she explained.

Sandi smiled at her and nodded. “Then it sounds like you came to the right place, come with me.”

She looped her arm through Kayleigh’s and took her over to one of the free poles and stood Kayleigh next to it, facing the wall of mirrors in front of her.

“I want you to take a look at the girl in front of you. Sheisstrong, sheispowerful and capable, sheissexy. Now we’ve just got to convince her and we’re gonna do that together, hon.” Sandi squeezed her arm briefly before turning and speaking to one of the other girls who had come over. If she hadn’t done that, she might have noticed the quiver in Kayleigh’s lip or the way she cleared her throat and took a breath, suddenly overcome with emotion.

By the time Sandi turned back, Kayleigh had a big smile plastered on her face.

“Now then, let’s stretch out and we’ll start with the basics…”

When Ben pulled up outside the studio, Kayleigh rushed over, opened the car door and threw herself inside peppering kisses over his face.

“Thank you so much for pushing me to do this, it was amazing,” she said in between kisses.

He laughed and gripped her arms. “I’m so pleased, you going back next week?” She nodded eagerly and he laughed again. “That’s my bad girl, I’m so proud of you.”

Then he pulled her close for a kiss, covering her lips with his before teasing them open and driving her wild with smooth wet strokes of his tongue. She pressed herself against him, needing to be closer. A low sound rose in his throat that made her needy, clutching at the sleeves of his leather jacket and tugging him impossibly closer.

“Dammit, Kay. I need to get you out of here before something indecent happens in the middle of this crowded street.”

She glanced around, seeing no one nearby, and giggled. He pulled himself away, groaning, just as her stomach let out a loud growl. She clapped her hand over her belly, heat fusing her cheeks.
