“He’s hiding on Longroad pack territory. In the storm cellar under the alpha’s house.”

“How do you know?” Stone asked. “Did you see it in a vision? Are you sure it’s now? Could you be seeing the past?”

“I’m sure.”

Stone looked doubtful, and it filled me with frustration. This was my only gift, my only saving grace, the one thing I could offer Amelia. And maybe he didn’t even believe me after all.

“I know where he is, because it’s where he used to hold me. So if you don’t put an end to him, Stone, I will.”

“I’m on it,” Stone promised. “it will be good to finally come face to face with Nathan Longroad again.”

“Not alone.” Shaw clapped my shoulder. “Thank you, Liam.”

For going into the visions. He left that part unsaid.

But Shaw had sounded more serious than my little brother ever sounded.

I jerked my head in a nod. “I’m going to run.”

My brothers nodded. Neither of them looked surprised. Of course after such a draining, emotional experience, I was going to run.

But they didn’t know that I wasn’t just running.

For the first time in my life, I was running with a destination.

I was makingmy way toward the edge of pack territory when Cole stepped into my path. His lips curled back as he growled.

I shifted back, and he shifted into his human form after a moment.

“Where are you going?” Cole demanded.

He had blocked me quietly. I was surprised he hadn’t started howling for backup. That made me wonder what exactly was going on in his head.

“I’m going to find Amelia.” She didn’t need to see Stone right now, but I didn’t think she would mind seeing me. It hurt to think that she had chosen not to confide in me in the first place. Had it even occurred to her that I could help her?

Those are questions I could get tangled up in too easily. I pushed them away for now.

“You can’t leave pack territory,” Cole said. “Stone’s orders.”

“Are they?” I mused. It had never come up before. I’d never wanted to leave pack territory. These miles of forests felt safe.

But I’d leave them behind for Amelia.

“He just wants to protect you.”

“Oh, I’m aware. He just wants to protect us, and he just wants to be obeyed, and I’m pretty sure he would prefer that you were his brother because you always fall in line.”

Cole looked as if I had slapped him, but it was true.

“I know you’re loyal to Stone, and I’m sure he appreciates that as much as he’s capable of, but being loyal to Stone doesn’t mean obeying him when he’s being an idiot.”

Cole’s lips tightened into a hard line. “Things could have gone better.”

“You need Amelia to be here too.”

His eyes widened and his nostrils flared as his gaze met mine. “I never said that.”
