What the hell? He was supposed to be scaring her away, and instead, the damn woman liked his spankings. She liked the way they treated her and wanted it all.

Terror filled him as he gazed at her. No other woman had ever accepted him like Kalie, and the need to flee filled him. He glanced at Preston, who smiled and nodded.

What was he going to do?

CHAPTER12

Kalie had been here ten days. Almost two weeks and already she was dreading her decision. But what could she do? Her job, her life, everything was back in New York City. And yet, this felt like home and that frightened her.

She had settled into the house and was slowly going through all the closets, chests, and anything that might tell her something about her grandparents. So far, she’d found old photos of her father. His baby pictures and mementos of her grandparents’ life.

They looked happy as a family. And yet something must have torn them apart.

Today, she was going into town to speak to the lawyer. She had two offers on the place, but she didn’t know what she wanted to do. This was her heritage. And every day, it felt like she was meant to be here, but that couldn’t be possible.

After she met with the lawyer, she was going to meet with Granny Jones. This was the meeting she was looking forward to, not the one that would force her to make a decision about the ranch.

Walking out the door, she saw Colby and Preston working with a horse out by the barn. Just gazing at them, she became all flushed. Every day, they surprised her and made her feel more and more like she should be here with them.

Yet, nothing had been said about her staying. What if this was just a casual fling for them? But for her, it felt so much deeper. And how in the hell could she ever date again after experiencing the two of them together?

With a sigh, she blew them a kiss and hurried to the car. They knew where she was going and how this meeting could affect their futures as much as her own.

Getting into the rental car, she tried to think of the pros and cons of selling the property versus moving here. She would have to fly back to New York, pack up her apartment, and give them notice she was leaving. Then drive clear across the country with her things or hire a moving van.

She would have to sublet her apartment for six months until her contract was up. Or she could sell the land and walk out of here a very rich woman.

As she drove out the gate, she glanced back at the house. She would never own anything this nice in New York City. She would have to be a billionaire to own such a home.

And could she walk away from Colby and Preston? This had started as an experiment to experience two men at once. Just sex, but her emotions were getting involved. As much as she had tried not to let them get through the barriers to her heart, she cared about them.

Colby had demons he had yet to tell her about, but she hoped before she left, he would open up and tell her why he’d spent three years in prison. Why he pushed her away, and yet, he’d been the one to approach her in the grocery store.

Preston, dear God, the man was everything a woman could want. Handsome, funny, and endearing, and if anyone would ever look out for her and care for her, it would be him. He was the one who would comfort her and make certain she was all right. The man was perfect for what she wanted in a husband.

And he could fuck her into next week.

In fewer than ten days, they had made her theirs in every sense of the word except for a ring around her finger. And she wasn’t ready for that, but could she leave them behind and not regret her decision for the rest of her life?

What if this was where she was meant to be?

Pulling up in front of the attorney’s office, she glanced down the road. She liked this small town. It was quaint, and most of the world didn’t know about this place and she liked that about the little village.

With a sigh, she got out of her car and walked into the office.

“Kalie Parker to see Mr. Alley,” she told the receptionist.

“They’re waiting for you in the conference room,” she replied and led her to a large room in the back.

When she walked in, Nathan Alley along with Jim White and Zachary McCoy, another ranch owner, were waiting for her.

“Miss Parker,” Nathan said, rising as the other men rose from the table. “Good to see you, again.”

“Hello, gentlemen,” she said, coming in and sitting in a chair that Nathan pulled out for her.

He handed her two folders.

“Let’s begin,” he said. “In the first folder is Zachary McCoy’s offer of the ranch. He’s offering two million dollars. He will tear down the house and barns and incorporate the land into his own property and run cattle on it.”
