I chuckle and applaud his usage of the I Love Lucy quote. It works so well because of Brook’s hair.
“What is all of this?”
“Well…um, these five are mine.” I grab the ones I peed on.
“And this one?” Waylen picks up the stick before Brook can.
“These are all positive.” A pause settles over the whole room and all four of us look at one another. Gareth is the first to break the silence, “Does this mean…you…we’re…?”
He helps me up and I nod for him before he takes me in his arms and swings me around and around. By the time he stops spinning me, Waylen has Brook up over his shoulder.
“Waylen, you idiot, you can’t carry me like this. What about the baby?”
He stops immediately and shifts her so he has her in his arms, carrying her like a groom carries a bride. “Folks, I say we celebrate tonight and reschedule the night’s fun till tomorrow. I don’t know about you two but I have some unfinished business to handle.”
“Did you just call me ‘unfinished business’, Waylen Andrew?”
I snicker as the two of them make their way down the stairs of our Queen Anne, leaving me with Gareth.
“You’re happy?”
“Darlin’, I’ve been trying to knock you up since your little ass ignored me when your mom and the girls took me to dinner after the first class.”
“What?” I laugh as he lays me down on the bed. “I never ignored you. I was shy.”
He rolls his eyes and nuzzles into my neck. “You aren’t shy now.”
“That’s just because I know you now. I know you love me, and I love you and that lets me relax around you.”
“I do. Love you.” He kisses up my neck until he captures my mouth with his. “Let’s get married this weekend.”
“What?” I look at him like he’s lost his mind. “Are you insane? Our mothers would kill us. We’d have to go on the run and change our names and…,”
“Go undercover? We do our best work undercover, baby.”
I laugh as he shows me exactly how he wants to celebrate the news and eventually talks me into marrying him in our own backyard over the weekend. But I won too and both moms were there to take part. Hell, they’re the reason it got done so quickly. No undercover work required. Even though I do love going undercover with my Gareth you can’t keep a love this big hidden for too long. And I wouldn’t ever want to.
