I’d been looking forward to having this night with him ever since he said he was going to come here for this next movie night, and I was willing to bet that he was calling to cancel.

It was just my luck.

“Hello?” I said, answering his call.

“Hey, Hanna,” he replied. “I was on my way over there and—”

“Something came up, so you have to cancel?” I guessed, cutting him off.

“What? No. I was just wondering if you need me to bring anything,” he corrected me.

“Oh,” I murmured.

“What would make you think I was calling to cancel with you?” he questioned me. “Short of an emergency, I wouldn’t be doing that.”

I shrugged.

But since I realized he couldn’t see me, I had no choice but to speak. “I don’t know. I guess I just assumed since you were calling right before I expected you to arrive that you’d be doing it to cancel. I expected the worst news.”

I could hear a bit of the teasing in his tone when he returned, “Well, if nothing else, I’m happy to know that you’re looking forward to seeing me as much as I’m looking forward to seeing you tonight.”

I couldn’t stop myself from smiling. That was just another one of those things that indicated I wasn’t wrong about Leo feeling some sort of attraction toward me. I was relieved the feeling was mutual.

Apparently, I was too caught up in the way that made me feel that I completely ignored the fact he was on the phone and waiting for me to respond.

“So, do you?”

“Do I want to see you?” I countered.

Laughter came through the line. “I wasn’t exactly referring to that, but I guess we should start there.”

I bit my lip. I might have recognized that I was beginning to feel something more than just awkwardness toward Leo, but that didn’t mean I wasn’t immune to embarrassing myself in front of him. “I do want to see you tonight, Leo,” I said, my voice not sounding like my own.

“Good. Now, do you need anything? Snacks? Drinks?” he pressed.

“Nope. I’ve got that all covered,” I assured him. “Unless, of course, there’s something specific that you want that I might not have here.”

He didn’t hesitate to respond. “I’ll be fine with whatever you’ve got there.”

“Okay. So, I’ll see you soon then?” I asked.

“Yep. I should be there in less than ten minutes,” he confirmed.

“Sounds great. See you in a bit,” I said.

“Bye, Hanna.”

“Bye.”

I disconnected the call with Leo, let out a deep sigh of relief, and felt the warmth move through me. This was really happening. I couldn’t wait.

Before I knew it, the door had opened, and Leo walked in. I had considered whether I should move the location of the movie night to my personal home on the property, but since this was technically the movie night for the whole community, I had a feeling it was going to send the wrong message. So, I kept it in the registration house.

“Hey,” I greeted him, standing up from where I was sitting on the couch.

He smiled at me, forcing my eyes to drop to his perfect mouth, as he closed the door behind him. “Hey,” he returned.

While I didn’t move toward him, I allowed my eyes to roam over him. Leo was effortlessly cool. He simply wore a pair of jeans and a T-shirt, but both looked like they’d been made specifically for him, to fit his body.
