While there was no doubt that each of these choices had impacted my life in a huge way, none of them had given me the feeling that the choice I’d made to go after something more in my life had.

Because now I was here with Leo, and I’d never felt this much excitement before in my life. Not even when I’d officially opened Short and Sweet.

I couldn’t explain it, and to some degree, it didn’t make any sense to me. How could this man that I was just getting to know making me feel all that I was feeling? I didn’t know if it was all superficial, either.

Was the excitement and anticipation that had been building up until he’d gotten here simply the result of him being so new?

Part of me didn’t believe that, because I’d had several people who’d been new in my life that had never given me the same feeling that Leo had. Then again, I’d never been attracted to any of them the way that I was to him. Knowing he felt the same only made it all that much sweeter.

And it was becoming more and more clear that Leo felt at least as much attraction as I did. Because he’d made a decision of his own. That decision led to where we were right now.

Leo and I were sitting on the couch kissing each other instead of watching the movie that we’d intended to watch tonight. But there wasn’t a single thing about that which made me upset.

I was kissing Leo.

There was nothing about that to be upset about, especially not when he kissed the way he kissed.

I’d daydreamed about his lips for what felt like ages, and now that they were on mine, it was safe to say the reality was much better than the fantasy.

Leo’s fist was still in my hair, his fingers tangled in the mess of my curls to keep me right where he wanted me.

At some point after his mouth had touched mine, he ran his tongue along the seam of my lips, demanding access. I parted them, gave him what he wanted, and Leo did not hesitate to reward me.

His tongue drove inside my mouth, tasting me. I didn’t have a whole lot of experience, mostly because I was too terrified initially. Eventually, I’d started dating, but I was much younger than I was now. I wound up with one steady boyfriend when I was in my early twenties, after I’d gotten some therapy to deal with what Jimmy had done to me, but there was no doubt about it.

Leo’s kiss was the best kiss of my life.

And that was based just on what he was doing with his mouth. If I added in the way he was gripping my hair in his hand or the way his other arm suddenly wrapped around my waist and pulled me close, Leo’s kiss was out of this world.

My hands seemed to be interested in doing a little touching of their own. With one of my palms pressed firmly against his solid chest, the other slid up toward the side of his throat, around the back of his neck, and up into his hair.

Leo used his hand in my hair to angle my head a touch to give him better access. Then he used the strength in his other arm to bring me into his lap.

My body went willingly, and the next thing I knew, we were pressed together, chest to chest, with our mouths still connected.

Heat moved through me, our tongues dueled, and I couldn’t stop myself from letting out a moan of desperation.

It was at that moan that I felt Leo tug back gently on my hair so he could separate his mouth from mine.

For a few seconds, he stared into my eyes, and I was relieved to see that I wasn’t the only one who was breathing heavily.

A look that indicated Leo was pleased with himself, about what just happened between us, or possibly both, washed over his face. Then he said, “You taste even sweeter than I thought you would.”

I shot him a questioning look and asked, “If that’s true, then why did you stop us?”

“I’d really like to spend the rest of my night doing nothing but kissing you, Hanna, but I promised you company during movie night tonight, and I’m going to fulfill that promise,” he answered.

As much as I agreed with him about wanting to continue the kissing, I loved that he was the kind of guy who wanted to give me what he’d originally come here to give me.

“Okay,” I whispered.

“You want to get yourself some snacks?” he asked.

I leaned forward, unsure where the courage came from, and after pressing a chaste kiss to his lips, I nodded and replied, “Yeah.”

Leo gave me a squeeze and urged, “Get them and come back.”

“Okay.”
