Actually, that wasn’t entirely true, because things didn’t go back to being exactly like they had been.

Things had changed, but they’d changed in the very best way.

Maybe it was that we’d both had a better appreciation for each other and all that we’d endured. I didn’t know.

But I treasured Leo even more now. And if I didn’t know any better, I would have thought he believed I had a royal title or something with the way Leo had been doting on me.

We loved each other, and we didn’t hesitate to show it to each other every day.

One of the ways that Leo showed it was by doing things that he knew I loved doing. Watching a movie.

Tonight wasn’t a typical movie night at Short and Sweet. This was a night for Leo and me to spend together as a couple.

“You know what I love?” I asked, lifting my head from Leo’s chest to look at him.

He brought his gaze to mine and allowed his eyes to roam over my face. I noticed he did that a lot more lately. It didn’t always happen when I was talking him either. Sometimes, I’d be doing something like cooking dinner, and I’d glance over to find him watching me instead of focusing on either the television or even his laptop when he decided to work from my place for a bit when we first left the hospital. He would always just watch me with this look of adoration on his face.

“Me?” he guessed.

I rolled my eyes. “That should be obvious.”

His lips twitched, and his eyes slid to the side. “Lots of snacks during a movie?”

Letting out a frustrated sigh, I declared, “I’m talking about something that we haven’t already discussed yet.”

His body shook slightly with his laughter. “I have no idea. What do you love?”

Something warm moved through me before I shared, “I love that you and I now start movie nights the way our first one together ended.”

I watched as Leo allowed the memory of our first movie night together to filter through his mind. Within a few seconds, he grinned and replied, “Things have certainly changed a lot since that first movie night, haven’t they?”

“They have,” I confirmed.

“I’ll never forget how nervous you were,” he started. “And I love the change that I’ve seen in you since then.”

Tipping my head to the side, I asked, “What do you mean?”

Leo lifted his hand to the side of my head, where he drove his fingers into my hair and brushed it back from my face. “You were so shy the first few times I was around you. It was adorable, and it only made me that much more intrigued by you. And I’ll never forget the reaction you had when you realized I was going to actually join you for a movie night. Even through text message, I could tell you were surprised. Initially, it upset me, but now I like knowing that I gave you something unexpected that was rewarded in the best way possible.”

“Rewarded?” I asked, cocking an eyebrow.

He nodded. “You kissing me the way you did before we ultimately fell asleep on the couch together that night.”

A smile instantly formed on my face. That night had been one of the best nights of my life. Because even if we’d had some interactions with one another before then, it was at that point that things really started to change between us.

“I think you were the one who kissed me,” I said haughtily.

He matched my smile and clarified, “The first time, absolutely. But after the movie, I’m pretty sure it was you who kissed me.”

Narrowing my eyes at him, feeling playful, I insisted, “I remember it differently. Trust me, Leo. If I kissed you first, you would have known it.”

Feeling just as frisky and clearly wanting what he wanted, he decided to take matters into his own hands. “So do it now. Prove to me just how unforgettable kisses initiated by you can be.”

I’d always been the kind of girl who felt unsure about a lot of things. But since Leo had entered my life, that changed. Since he’d been with me, especially when he was around, I never backed down from a challenge.

That was precisely the reason why I shifted myself, crawled up his body, and gave him the best kiss I could muster up.

Of course, that kiss led to me taking charge in a whole new way. But as was always the case with Leo, he eventually took over, and found a way to make sure he didn’t slack on delivering a whole lot more than just a kiss to me.
