I loved hearing that, but what I loved most about it was that Thea had finally gotten the happy ending she deserved. After being a single mom for so many years, she’d just about given up on the idea of ever finding love. Colt came into her life at a crucial time, and he was everything she needed and more.

“Thanks, Thea. That means a lot.”

In a surprising twist, Gage piped up and joined the conversation. “I have a question,” he declared.

“What’s that?” I asked.

His eyes darted back and forth between Johnny and me. “Is it safe to assume I’m never going to win an argument?”

My lips twitched at the question, as it was clear that Gage was curious about his future. He and Saylor were currently engaged to be married in the spring.

I looked at my husband and said, “I think that question is for you.”

Everyone laughed.

Everyone except for Johnny.

And I quickly realized it was because he was pondering something—likely his answer to Gage’s question.

A moment later, he surprised the group when he replied, “We don’t fight.”

“What?” Saylor gasped.

Johnny shrugged. “Kiera and I don’t fight.”

“That’s not possible,” Simon stated.

“Are you being serious?” Gage pressed.

Since he’d tried and failed to make them believe him, I decided it was my turn to make an attempt.

“He’s telling the truth,” I told him. “It’s the craziest thing to me if I sit and think about it, but we don’t argue with each other. I don’t think we’ve ever had a fight.”

“How?” Talia asked.

“We talk,” I said, hoping that offered the explanation everyone seemed to be looking for. But when I realized there was still confusion littering their faces, I explained, “Johnny and I communicate a lot. About our likes and dislikes. About our expectations. About the things we want or don’t want. I think we both make a valiant effort to remember what each other says, and then we do or don’t do things based on that. I don’t know. It works for us. Of course, we might have a difference of opinion on something, but we never argue with each other about it. We often agree to disagree, unless it’s about something really important. And in those cases, we sit down and talk it out.”

“She knows what I want and need in our marriage, and I know what she wants and needs,” Johnny added. “It just works.”

“God, I love you two together so much,” Margot sighed.

“Me, too,” Saylor piped up. “Unless we’re playing games as a group and you’re on the same team.”

Everyone laughed again, even Johnny.

“New rule,” Colt declared. “From now on, Johnny and Kiera are on separate teams on game nights.”

“That’s never going to happen,” Johnny said, his hand giving my thigh a squeeze. “I’m on this girl’s team forever.”

I smiled at him. “Aw, honey. That was sweet of you to say.”

Before I could lean in to give him a kiss, Talia spoke. “Okay, time to get back to the tournament. We might as well find out who is going to come in second place.”

“There’s still a chance someone else can win,” I insisted.

“That’s not possible,” Colt argued. “But I think it’s safe to say that we’re not upset about it. If you two spend all your time brushing up on Tetris, so you can kick our asses, instead of arguing with each other, we really don’t stand a chance.”

“Yeah, I’m not mad that Margot and I have the occasional tiff,” Simon chimed in. “Making up is too much fun.”
