My heart swells when I spot the diamond wedding ring on Ryder’s finger. I recall the wonderful ceremony he and Vincenzo had last week.So magical.
I also note the engagement rings on his friends’ fingers. What. A. Blessing. Each one of my cousins’ partners will make a wonderful spouse.
I’d love to get married someday, too—I wonder if Mattie shares that desire.
Faro buries Cyan, who’s the one who spoke, in a hug. "No, chica."
Giosuè turns to Ryder. "Your wedding was awesome. I never told you that."
Ryder’s cheeks flush pink. "The giant kitty was over-the-top. But everything else was perfect."
That’s when another voice rings out. "Are you over there, Medici? I hear people. Dino kept trying to get me to steal your underwear, so I had to leave him to his own devices. I’m many things—but I refuse to be a thief."
I turn around to see Mattie standing beside an olive tree.
His slender torso glistens with olive oil from our massage and his hair sticks up in every direction.
He holds Cloudy in his left hand—and the emotions that bubble up inside me are too beautiful to express.
"Get over here, Mattie." I beckon him to my side. "Come and meet my brothers."
Ryder, Cyan, and Enzo squeal as they jump and wave. "Mattie!" Ryder yells.
Cyan does a happy dance. "We thought those scary kidnappers killed you."
"Tell us how you survived," Enzo shouts.
Mattie blushes as he walks to my side. "My inner Little bashed the kidnappers over the head with Cloudy until they conked out. Then, while I was dripping in their blood, I headed outside the compound—and Medici was waiting for me in his helicopter to bring me to Sicily."
I push out a groan. "Riiight."
Enzo buries Mattie in a hug. "You’re so brave."
Faro turns to Giosuè. "You need to tell Dino to back away from this boy. He’ll corrupt him."
Giosuè crosses his arms over his chest. "Don’t speak about Dino like that. He has a good soul."
"Dino is a straight-up whore," Santino drawls. "All he does is talk about getting with Romeo."
Cyan pats Mattie’s head. "We’re glad you’re safe.Tell Medici thank you for rescuing your ass."
Mattie grits his teeth as he extricates himself from his friends. "I did all the work. He doesn’t deserve a thank you."
Ryder frowns. "That’s very rude, Mattie. He busted his ass to save you—I imagine he bought you yummy food on the way back, too. That’s the Luciano way."
Well, what do you know? I did.
Mattie spins toward me. His blue eyes pulsate with electricity. "Thank you for saving me."
At this moment, I could die. Honest to God. Fuck everything Life has yet to give me.
