"The thing about time travel is that we don't know who’s a time traveler. They very well could be."

I plant a kiss on Medici’s shoulder. Damn, he’s smart. He has a way of taking complex topics and distilling them so someone with my brain processing power can understand them.

"You’re a genius," I breathe, love for this man bubbling up inside me.

Medici rubs my hair. "I’m not the most bookish guy, but I have my moments. Nonna often referred to me as her Little Einstein growing up."

"And she didn’t even mean it sarcastically," I rasp.

Medici’s eyes pinprick. "Now that you mention it."

I snicker as I massage his thigh. "We can’t all be brilliant. Don't worry about it, Daddy. I like you for your muscles and heart."

Medici turns to me. A lightning bolt of adoration pulses in his dark irises as he drags his thumb across my tender cheek.

"Ididgo to Princeton," he growls.

"Liar."

"Fine. I toured Princeton when I took out a mob-affiliated professor in Jersey."

I nod. "More believable."

"You don’t have toattendan Ivy League college for the student body's intelligence to rub off on you," he explains. "Sitting on a bench and watching the geniuses walk by is enough. They transfer their smart molecules to you through the air. It’s quite easy to boost your IQ by strolling around Princeton."

"I believe you," I breathe.

"You’rethe one who needs to attend a better college," Medici snaps. "I formulated brilliant theories this morning. Yeah, I can’t prove them, but that’s the nature of the theoretical. One of my research assistants will do the digging and piece together my argument for me."

I pat his arm. "I don't need you to be a time travel expert to be my Daddy. The way you love me is enough."

Medici ticks his eyes up. Something I can’t place wells inside them.

"Do you realize what you said, baby boy?" His voice is so soothing, so deep, it stimulates me in the tenderest regions of my soul.

I can only focus on one thing:baby boy.Gah, that nickname kills me.

I adore it.

I want to record Medici saying it and use it as my morning alarm. Better yet—my lullaby for falling asleep.

It’d be fucking impossible not to have sweet dreams hearing that at night.

I nod. "I said you can be dumb as a yak and still be mine."

"You said you know that I love you."

A shiver wreaks havoc on my pinky, causing it to twitch. "I-I did?"

"Yes, you did." Medici tickles my under-chin. "Look at you. Intuiting what Daddy feels for you. He tried to hide it, sunflower. He truly did. His feelings must’ve broken through the cellar door behind which he trapped them. Locking emotions up never works. You must be open. Brave. Upfront. That’s the only solution in this crazy world."

I blush as I kiss his collarbone. "I guess you’re right."

"I may not have a master's degree in physics," Medici growls, "but I have a PhD in love."

I dust his lips with a kiss.

Sweet warmth flows through me as I swirl my tongue around his cheeks.
