With a proud smile, he points at himself.

I acknowledge his choice. “Very elegant. A lot better than ‘Hart of the Seas.’”

With that, I give my hand to him, which he lovingly takes and kisses before helping me settle in the two-seater submarine.

Rocky runs his final checks, and then closes the hatch.

“Let’s do this.” I beam from ear to ear. After all, once a water girl, always a water girl.

ROB

The sunlight plays against the ocean waves as Angel Shark is hoisted down.

Amber-Rose’s eyes shimmer, and her pink lips form a sweet smile as I dip the sub below the surface. Bubbles engulf the glass dome, and soon we’re surrounded by nothing but blue—the truest color of the earth, as true as the way I feel about the woman I’m going to propose to.

“Welcome to the twilight zone,” I say and turn on the high beam.

“Rob… This is…” She holds her breath, as if she was free-diving. “This is incredible! How deep are we?”

“Two hundred feet.” Considering her lungs and her pregnancy, much as I want to take her deeper, I won’t take her below the safest zone.

Fishes of all colors and sizes zoom past in every direction, and jellies dance gracefully, bringing an endless smile to Amber-Rose’s face. In response, every living being seems to smile back at her.

While she’s immersed in the blue magic, I take off my tux and spread it over her shoulders.

“I’m fine, Rob,” she says, searching for a reason I did it, as if she’s forgotten that she’d stolen many of my sweaters.

“You look cold,” I insist.

She cocks her head but accepts my offer.

“Also, you can put your hands in the pockets,” I add.

Despite her bewilderment, she entertains me and slides her hands in slowly. “Rob?” Her brows lift, her lips curve upward. Her left hand emerges with the princess-cut diamond ring I planted in my tux.

“I apologize for this rather unconventional proposal, and forgive me that I can’t bend down on one knee at the moment. But rest assured, my lady, I am planning to do that for the rest of my life.”

Her glossy eyes look into me, as if reaffirming that my decision to marry her is the best one I’ve made, and will make, in my life. “Robson Hartley, you don’t have to kneel. You don’t even have to ask. And an unconventional way is the right way, because you’re not an ordinary man.”

I cover the ring on her palm with mine, and then fold my fingers to secure the precious jewelry in my grip. “A man has to ask, Amber-Rose. Will you marry me?”

She holds out her hand to me. “You’re everything I could’ve hoped for, and more. Of course I’ll marry you.”

I slide the platinum ring onto her delicate finger. It gleams just like she does. It belongs to her, just like I do—it will never look right on anyone else. “I want to spend the rest of my life with only you.”

“There’s nothing I want more than to be by your side until my last day.”

Our lips meet, pulsing with joy, assurance and belief. In total silence, we breathe into each other, giving life to each other. That’s what lovers do—that’s what two people who were created for each other do.

Amber-Rose inspects her surrounding once more, apparently absorbing the surreal quality of the moment.

An instant later, I hear a ping from Rocky. “Angel Shark, come in.”

I turn to her. “Are we ready to go?”

My fiancée nods sweetly.
