“Angus is one of ours and he should be in on the fight.”

Then they got out, planning to fly cloaked from here, following Eleanor’s lead. When they reached the location, she touched Levka’s arm. He took an alarmed breath.

“Down there. Do you see that ordinary looking barn? There’s a cellar in it. Let’s go.”

They all landed near one of the windows of the barn. No one was guarding the place on the outside. Which might have told a rescue force for William that the elders were holding someone there. Caitlin peered in through the dirty window. “I count at least twelve-armed people, two women and ten men.”

“Good odds for us,” Ruric said.

“I can cast a spell and put half of them to sleep,” Caitlin said.

“Do it,” Levka said. “Bettering our odds, keeps us all safer, and maybe allows some of their vampires to change sides. I’m all for having you use your abilities.”

“Tell me when,” Caitlin said.

“Now.”

Then Caitlin raised her hands and whispered some words.

Levka looked in through the window and saw six of the men suddenly collapse on the dirt floor and the others looking on in horror. Stasio was standing next to Levka, holding a rock, ready to break the window. “Do it,” Levka said.

With a powerful strike of the rock, Stasio broke the window, pulling back and striking it again until it was clear enough that Levka could make his way safely inside. Stasio was inside right after that. Arman, Ruric, and Gareth joined in the fight.

Eleanor said, “I’ll wait out here and watch for trouble.”

Jasmine and Caitlin hurried in through the window to help out.

Jasmine fought one of the female guards, a blond with flying leaps, forcing Jasmine to either wait until she alighted, or Jasmine had to join her in midair, their swords clashing.

Caitlin cast a spell forcing the blond to crash onto the floor. Her jaw dropped while she was sitting on her butt on the floor. She turned to see Caitlin moving her fingers and speaking silent words. She rushed to kill Caitlin, but Jasmine engaged the woman again instead. The two were fighting as Levka took down one of the men and Ruric took down another. Gareth finished off the other female. Arman was still fighting one of the men. Stasio and his target were up on top of the hayloft covered in buckets and hay.

Stasio kicked off a bucket before he tripped over it and it fell off the hayloft near where Jasmine and the blond were fighting. She glanced up at him, appearing annoyed.

Caitlin started to look for the room where William was being held against his will. Stasio was glad because they needed to get him out of here quickly before any of the guards warned the elders that a group was here trying to free him.

Ruric went to help Arman with the brute he was fighting. The guy was maybe in his forties in human years and powerfully muscled. Stasio and his friends were good fighters, but someone like that needed a couple of vampires to take him down.

Stasio finished the one he was fighting before Gareth joined him. Levka went with Caitlin, being ever protective over his mate, to locate William. Arman and Ruric finished off the musclebound guy.

“This room. I hear a heartbeat beyond the door,” Caitlin said.

“Keys,” Stasio said, taking them off the vampire he’d been fighting and hurried to join them so they could open the door. He glanced around the room where the vampires were lying about the floor. “Where’s Eleanor?”

“She wanted to stay outside and warn us if anyone else shows up to stop us from freeing William,” Jasmine said.

They finally found the right key to the door, and Levka shoved it open, knowing that there would only be one person in there. Of course they didn’t know if it was William or not.

“We need Eleanor to identify him,” Levka said.

“I’ll get her,” Jasmine said.

“Eleanor? She brought you here? Aww, hell. I’m William Trenton and Eleanor’s the woman who was in the elder’s car when I was taken hostage.” William was duct taped to a chair. “Who are all of you?”

“We’re with Scotty.” Stasio hurried to remove the tape binding William.

Ruric and Arman jumped in to help him.

“This is a trap then,” Jasmine said. “We need to leave before Eleanor communicates to the elders and has us all picked up.”
