“Very well. If you change your mind, just call us and we’ll send someone right up.” Then the doctor left the bedroom.

Jasmine furrowed her brow at Stasio.

He smiled at her. “I told you, I’m here for you.” Then he sat beside her on the bed and offered his neck to her again.

“I was ready to take a bite out of you for deciding if I needed a blood bond or not.”

“That’s the whole point.” He settled down next to her.

She sighed. She didn’t want to have to take any more blood from him. He was tired like she was. But she guessed some of her tiredness was from the blood loss. After the fact, she had been glad Stasio had carried her into the house because she realized she was a bit lightheaded.

“Wait,” she said. “An estate this big and owned by an elder would undoubtedly have its own private blood bank.”

“But the doctor said he would send up a blood bond.”

“Call…I don’t know, someone. Ruric or Arman. See if they can find a bag of blood for me.”

“Hey, do any of you know if they have a private blood bank here?”Stasio telepathically asked his friends.

Jasmine rolled her eyes. “I could have done that.”

“That’s why you need blood. You’re not thinking clearly.”

Ruric said,“I’m checking with the butler now. Then I’m going to bed and unless someone’s attacking the estate, I’m sleeping.”

They waited for a response from Ruric after that, but when it didn’t come right away, Stasio left the bed. “I’m going to check on him.”

Jasmine loved how they always looked out for each other.

But then Ruric entered the room with a bag of blood. “I take it Jasmine needs this.”

“Yes, thanks.” Stasio took it to her.

Levka sounded irritated when he telepathically asked,“Well, did you find the blood or not?”

Stasio and Ruric smiled at each other. They were all exhausted. Normally, they would have made sure that they all knew what was going on—for safety’s sake.

Stasio and Ruric said at the same time telepathically,“Yes.”

“So they have a blood bank here,”Levka asked for clarification.

“Yes,”Ruric said,“so if Caitlin needs more to eat, they have it on hand. The same for the rest of us.”

Silence.

Then Levka said,“Bring us some, Ruric.”

Ruric shook his head.“Coming right up.”Then he said to Stasio and Jasmine, “See what I get from answering the call?”

Stasio and Jasmine chuckled.

“You have done yet another good deed for the night,” Jasmine said. “Thanks for bringing this to me and for finding the blood bank for all of us.”

“May the Force be with you.” Ruric saluted her with his pretend light saber and headed out of the room.

“I’m sure they have more bedrooms where you can sleep comfortably on your own,” Jasmine said to Stasio. She hoped he would pursue staying with her, but she didn’t want him to feel he had to remain with her here.

He folded his arms. “Did I snore last night?”
