“That sounds great. Don’t be taking on any more leagues, Jasmine,” Brett said sternly.

Jasmine smiled. “I have no plan to.”

Brett sternly looked at Levka.

Levka raised his arms. “I don’t have any intention to.”

For now, anyway, Jasmine thought. She was sure he and his friends would like to be able to return to Wales someday.

“We’re good,” Stasio said.

“Then I want to wish you all the best and I will visit. But don’t be a stranger here either.” Brett hugged her.

“We won’t.” She hugged him back. She loved her new friends, but she would miss seeing her brother, though they didn’t visit each other all that often because of their occupations.

Stasio was looking ill at ease, and she figured it was because of the storm brewing.

Then after they all said their goodbyes, they checked into their flight and Jasmine and Stasio were seated in first class, along with the rest of their companions.

“I don’t want to know how you managed to get us all the first-class seats,” Jasmine said to Ruric.

“Yeah, as hunters who track down rogue vampires,” Cadfael said, “we don’t either.”

By the time they were on their way back to Scotland, the storm was in full force and Stasio shook his head. “Not again. I swear I’m a storm magnet when I fly.”

“We can weather any storm,” she said.

“Together,” he agreed, and they kissed and snuggled together.

For now, the team, plus one vampire assassin, was together in this adventure and they would be there for each other through the good times and bad.

Gareth said, “This is the first time I’ve seen you on a plane during a storm where you weren’t in the bathroom half the time. Jasmine must be a good influence on you.”

* * *

Stasio agreed.Jasmine was a good influence on him for sure. He was glad that day when she’d looked at them so curiously at the car rental park at the airport that he’d checked her out, learning eventually that she was an assassin after his cousin, but he never would have thought she would have helped his cousin to find justice in the end.

Though he’d felt anxious when he first had boarded the plane, now that they were soaring high above, he was so glad she was sitting with him and making the flight bearable.

“You know what I want to do when we get back to Scotland?” she asked.

“Get some sleep?”

“Go swimming.”

Jasmine’s actions and comments were often a surprise to him, and he loved that they were. He loved that she was going home with him—their new home and she was happy to leave her old world behind. He knew it was all because she wanted to be with him and that made him love her even more.

Then the storm quieted. Not outside of the plane because it was going full force, but in here with Jasmine, it was perfect, listening to her steady heartbeat, feeling her warmth, looking forward to arriving home and no longer being on the run. He was glad to finally have a girlfriend, just like Levka had. No way would he have ever thought he would end up with an assassin for a girlfriend though, just like Levka had never expected to end up with a witch. It made him wonder…

He glanced at Ruric reading a Sci-Fi magazine and Arman reading a book on rules of engagement in a fight. What kind of girlfriends would they end up with? No telling about his cousin Gareth either.

For now, all that mattered was Stasio found just the right girl for him.

EPILOGUE

Two months later, Stasio and his friends didn’t know what would happen to them in the future. But for now, they were enjoying the beautiful estate of the former elder, the home gifted to them by the new council to enjoy as long as they wanted to stay in Scotland. So far, the council members had set up the new rules for the vampires and everyone for the most part was happy with them.

Now, Levka’s turning Caitlin was viewed as perfectly acceptable. Jasmine had been cleared by the New York League and was still on assassin status. Pierre was on a rogue list and in hiding who knew where.
