“I hid it away in my luggage. Not exactly kid-appropriate. You should have seen Aidan’s face when he picked it up in my car. He nearly died.”

Hack snorted. He could imagine.

“He’s such a prude sometimes,” she said.

“Here, drink some water.”

She sighed but reached for the bottle. She managed to spill some on her chin as she drank it. Grabbing a napkin, he held her chin as he wiped it up. By the time he drew back her face was bright red.

“Uh, thanks.”

“You’re welcome, Little girl. Keep eating.”

She shook her head. “No thanks.”

No thanks? She wasn’t getting away with eating next to nothing. Especially as she needed to take some painkillers for her wrist.

She started to stand, and with a sigh, he reached over for her. He made sure not to move too fast, so he didn’t scare her.

Then he plucked her up and sat her on his lap, facing him.

“What are you doing?”

“You need to eat some more. And you can’t seem to sit still long enough to do that.”

She bit her lip. “Sorry.”

“I want to see most of this burger gone.” He held up another piece and fed it to her as she sat facing him. This was an incredibly intimate position to be in. He had to keep reminding himself that the last thing she needed was to know exactly how turned on he was.

There was a dab of sauce at the corner of her mouth and without thinking, he removed it with his finger before putting it in his mouth.

She stared at him, her mouth dropping open. “I can’t believe you just did that.”

He had thought about licking it off, but he was holding himself back.

See? He could behave. Easy.

“Just all part of taking care of you in Hack World.”

“Does Hack World allow donuts? Because I could really use a donut. I wish I’d bought donuts for dinner.”

“Donuts are not a suitable dinner alternative. Breakfast, yes. Dinner, no.”

She sighed. “But sometimes you just gotta have breakfast for dinner.”

“Hmm. I accept that argument.”

“You do?” She gave him a shocked look.

“What? Don’t look so surprised. I can be reasonable.” He fed her another piece of burger, happiness filling him as she took a bite and chewed.

She gave him a skeptical look. “Can you, though?”

“Yes. You wound me.” He placed his hand on his chest.

“I’m sure. You look so upset.”

Considering he was grinning, he understood her disbelief.
