“Get a large cheeseburger pizza,” Levi told him. “Extra bacon.”

“What do you want?” Gage asked, looking at me.

“Meat lovers,” I said.

“I’ll order it, but tomorrow night is fight night, and we need food. Don’t fuck her all damn day.”

I was going to plant my fist in his fucking face if he didn’t shut the hell up.

“Can I ask how it was, or will that get me killed?” Levi backed up a few steps after he said it.

“No,” I snarled and headed for the bar.

Levi turned on the Heat game and flopped down on the sofa. I finished one drink and poured another before going to my chair. Once Gage was done ordering, he sat down on the other side of the sofa.

Levi yelled at the television some. I never got into basketball, but Levi had always been a die-hard Miami Heat fan. No one discussed anything important, and when the pizza arrived, Trinity was still downstairs. I considered going to check on her but decided that would send mixed signals.

This wasn’t a relationship. We fucked. I wanted to do it more. A lot more. Possibly for many years. But no strings. No emotions.

Twenty-One

Trinity

After waking up and finding myself alone, I climbed out of bed, then took a look at the bedding. It was not good. I stripped the quilt, sheets, and mattress pad. These needed to be washed, but first, I had to take a shower. There was blood between my thighs, but I didn’t think that was the reason I was sticky.

I took a quick shower, then put my clothes back on. Rolling up the dirty bedding in the quilt, I headed for the stairs. Thankfully, I didn’t have to go through the kitchen or living room to get to the laundry room. If Gage or Levi saw me carrying this, I would likely die of embarrassment.

I started with the mattress pad, adding bleach to the machine before turning it on. Once that was going, I headed for the stairs to go up to my room, but the smell of pizza caught my attention. I debated on going upstairs to change or going to get something to eat first.

They had probably expected me to cook tonight and had to order pizza since I was sleeping. What would Huck have told them? Or had Gage already figured it out since he had seen Huck dragging me through the house?

Taking a deep breath, I decided to go face them and get this over with. I should apologize for not cooking dinner. I’d make it up to them tomorrow at breakfast. If only I wasn’t nervous about this. I was a grown-up. I’d seen Levi have sex on the sofa while Gage participated. There was no reason for this to be a big deal.

I could hear the television, and it sounded like they were watching some sort of sports game. Making my way down the hall, I entered the room quietly and had a moment before they noticed me. My eyes instantly went to Huck, who was sitting in the leather chair he seemed to always sit in with a glass of whiskey in his hand and a cigar between his lips. My chest felt funny, and I wanted to smile just from the sight of him.

His head turned then, and he looked at me. I was happy, but it was very brief because he nodded his head once in acknowledgment of me and turned his attention back to the television. My chest no longer felt funny; it hurt. I had expected something different. Why? I didn’t know. I should have known better. This was me we were talking about here. I didn’t get to feel happy.

My feet wouldn’t move. I was glued to the spot, looking at Huck, thinking maybe he would turn back to me. Downstairs, he’d seemed … different. He had held me and said things to me that made me feel special. Maybe that was what he did after he had sex.

“Trinity!” Gage called out my name, and I jerked my gaze off Huck to meet Gage’s smile. I tried to return it with one of my own, but it was a struggle. “We got pizza. You hungry?”

Not anymore.

“Sorry you had to order pizza,” I told him, feeling my face get hot. “I promise to make it up to you at breakfast.”

Gage’s grin grew. “Deal. My favorite meal of the day.” He glanced back at Huck, who was watching the television and taking the cigar from his lips.

When he swung his gaze back to me, I could see the pity in his eyes.

“Come sit.” He patted the spot beside him. “You’ve got a choice of meat lovers, cheeseburger, buffalo chicken, or pepperoni.”

I looked from him to Huck again, who was still watching the television. I wasn’t going to be able to eat, but if I walked out of here, all three of them would know why. Huck would know I had thought what we had done meant something. They would all know that I had misunderstood. My pride wasn’t going to let me do that. I had to face these men every day.

I walked over to the sofa and sat down beside Gage. Not close enough to touch, but beside him. He had been the one to invite me to sit. No one else had asked. Levi was eating a piece of pizza, but I could feel him watching me. He hadn’t said anything.

“What’s it gonna be?” Gage asked me.

I was almost positive if I tried to eat something, I would throw up. I shook my head. “I’m not hungry.”
