“What?”

“He went to the store to buy me more of my favorite wine. That was the only time he left my sight.” She shook her head again. “He wouldn’t have. We were having a great time.”

My heart broke for her. “I’m sorry. You deserve better. Andrew is a piece of shit, Kait. He’s no good.”

She held up her hand to stop me from saying more. “No. It’s not true. I don’t know why he was calling you, but there’s a reason. A reason that isn’t my fiancé trying to cheat on me with my cousin!”

I winced as she screamed the last of her sentence. I looked toward the door, wishing I was on the other side of it. “You probably want me to go…”

“Is this because of that Thanksgiving?” She looked desperate as she stood up and grabbed my arm. “Are you trying to pay me back for what I did? Fine! You got me, Poppy! You can stop the joke now!”

I frowned. “What are you talking about?”

“Fine. You need to hear me say it, apparently. Well, here you go. I fucked your boyfriend when you brought him home for Thanksgiving. Happy now? I admitted it. Is that what you needed to hear?”

For some reason, a deep belly laugh erupted out of me. It wasn’t the reaction I would’ve ever expected from myself after being told something like that, but it just figured. Andrew was such a dick and maybe he and Kaitlyn belonged together after all. I wiped tears from my eyes and tried to stop laughing so I could get out of there.

“What’s so funny?” She’d gone from pissed to nervous and as she watched me, I saw it click in her head. “You didn’t know.”

I shook my head and let out a few more chuckles before regaining my composure. “I didn’t have a clue. Thanks for telling me, though, I guess.”

“You’re not lying, are you?” She sank into her throne and stared up at me with a shocked look on her face. “He cheated on you with me and then tried to cheat on me with you?”

A message pinged on my phone and when I saw it was from the group message, I nearly broke a finger trying to open it. Inside, I saw a picture of red roses sitting on my porch. The next picture was of the card from Andrew. Under the pictures, Sam had typed just one thing.

My house smells like my grandma’s bathroom, thanks to you.

The next picture that came in was of his living room, nearly every surface covered in vases of red roses.

I grinned down at my phone, my heart racing because I knew that I was going to get my guys. Even though I didn’t deserve them. Even though they should’ve run while they had a chance. I’d never expected to be so romanced by a man taking flowers from me instead of giving them to me, but I was.

“What are you smiling about? My wedding is ruined!” Kaitlyn yanked the tiara off her head and threw it across the room. “I’m going to kill him. I can’t believe the nerve of him. When I’m done with him, he’s going to be lucky to get a show on local access television.”

I got out of her way as she grabbed the bottom of her skirt, lifted it, and charged toward the door. Maybe I should’ve talked her down from maiming Andrew, but it wasn’t my job. I figured her bridesmaids could handle it.

I grabbed a glass of champagne and drank it while waiting for the screeching in the hallway to die down. Looking down at my phone again, I decided I didn’t want to wait anymore. I wanted to find them and tell them how I felt. I took a glass of champagne to go and made my way back down the hallway.

The closer I got to the entrance of the church, the louder the screaming was. When I peeked my head inside to see what was happening, I was shocked to see Kaitlyn hitting Andrew with her bouquet.

“You tried to cheat on me! Look at me! Why would you cheat on me? What the hell is wrong with you?” She whacked him a few more times, getting lost in her anger. “Why would you try to cheat on me with her when you cheated on her with me? It makes no sense! If you wanted her that bad, you wouldn’t have fucked me in my parents’ bathroom while she was downstairs looking for you!”

Aunt Bonnie might’ve pulled her next stunt to make her daughter stop screaming and cursing in a church, but she made it look real as she stood up and gasped before falling to the floor of the church. Chaos erupted after that. Kaitlyn kept right on screaming at Andrew, who was doing his best to make his way down the aisle toward an exit. My mom stood over her sister, looking as concerned as I felt for Andrew. Half of the people in the church were laughing at the spectacle while the other half clutched their pearls. I’d never seen anything like it.

Father Holcomb nearly took off my head as he sprinted out of there. He stopped to catch his breath and then noticed me standing beside him.

I grinned. “Seems like my dog wasn’t the problem, huh?”

“Well.Thatwasprettywild.” I looked around at the shredded flowers and pieces of what looked like the bridesmaids’ dresses on the church floor. “I didn’t expect the bridesmaids to start fighting.”

Sam scratched his beard. “When the short one jumped on the back of that other one? Oh, man. I was not expecting that.”

Mr. Banner whistled under his breath. “I haven’t seen that much action in a lot of years, boys. I’m surprised I’m still standing.”

I tried to bite back a laugh, but it was useless. My shoulders shook until I let out a loud bark of a laugh and then just fell apart all together. I’d never seen anything like what we’d just witnessed. When Poppy sets out to stop a wedding, shestops a wedding.
