“Feeling okay?” Bram asked.

“Yes. I’m glad it’s all over.” She was determined to put Kozlov out of her mind and not spare any more energy on him.

Bram spread his palm over her belly. “We need to turn my spare room into a nursery.”

She smiled. “Are you asking me to move in with you?”

His brow creased. “Yes.”

“Then yes, I will. I hope you can still find space to do your carvings. Will you carve something for the babies?”

He nodded.

“Maybe you should think of showing them to someone?” she suggested.

“Showing them?” He looked confused.

“To a gallery? Maybe your friend Eamon Farley.”

Her man’s scowl deepened. “It’s just a hobby.”

One he was brilliant at. Hmm, she’d need to work on him. She slid a hand up his cheek. “I love you, Bram ‘Excalibur’ O’Donovan. You’re going to be an amazing father.”

“I’ll do everything I can to be the best father possible. I’ll protect them, and you.” He pulled her closer. “I’ll love them, and you. You burrowed inside me, sunshine. You make me a better man. I want you, not because you’re pregnant or because of any sense of duty, but because you’re here.” He moved her hand to his chest. “I feel you here every day. Every battered bit of my soul is yours.”

Tears made her eyes prickle as love welled inside her. “I love you exactly as you are, Bram. From the moment I first saw you, I felt it. My heart is yours.”

One week later

Bram smoothedthe tool over the wood, then sat back. It was finished.

The sculpture was of two toddlers—a boy and a girl. They were giggling at each other.

He stood. Since they’d returned from Alaska, he’d moved his carving gear in the small office nook off the living room. There was just enough space for him to do his work. His sculptures of Addie were now in the bedroom. He’d made one of her with her growing belly, a serene smile on her face.

He carried the new one of the twins into his guest room. The nursery.

It smelled of fresh paint. He’d banned Addie from helping, but Nick and Matteo had pitched in. Addie had picked the soft-yellow color. There was no furniture yet, but it was on their To-Do list. They’d make this into a lovely space for their babies.

There was a small pile of baby things that he’d brought over from Addie’s. He looked at one small suit, and could hardly believe how small it was. He moved over to the shelves and set the sculpture down. He had ideas for plenty more, and he could imagine tiny fingers stroking them.

He touched the giggling faces on the sculpture. “I can’t wait to meet you both.”

Thankfully, he wasn’t quite as terrified of being a father anymore. He headed back to the office, and opened the drawer of his desk.

Inside was the sculpture he’d finished the day before. He smiled. He hoped Addie liked it.

He lifted it out, along with one other important item.

His phone rang, vibrating in his pocket. He pulled it out and saw a video call from Hex. He muttered a curse and answered it.

On the screen he saw Hex, with Devyn, Hadley, and Matteo crowding in.

“Did you ask her yet?” Hex asked.

“No,” he growled. “I was letting her sleep in. She was tired last night.”
