It rang once.
“Addie?”
His deep voice was a balm that immediately stopped her from falling into a full-blown panic attack. “Bram,” she whispered.
“What’s wrong?” His tone was deep, and she felt his heightened attention through the phone.
“There’s someone at my front door. They’re picking the lock—”
She heard him curse. “I’m coming.”
“Bram…” She was so afraid.
“Go to the bathroom. Lock yourself in.”
She headed that way, licking her dry lips. “Bram, I’m afraid.”
“I’m coming, sunshine. Hold on. Now, get in the bathroom.”
She scrambled in. The air was still steamy. She locked the door, but she was highly conscious of the flimsy, little, thumb-turn lock.
She wrapped an arm around her belly, and sucked in a shaky breath. She needed a weapon. She had no idea how long it would take Bram to get here.
She opened a drawer and rooted around. She grabbed a can of hair spray and pulled it out.
Then there was a loud crash from her living room.
She gasped, fear flooding her veins.
“Bram! They broke down the front door!”
“Hold on, Addie. I’m coming.”
CHAPTERFOUR
Bram sprinted across the street and pressed his phone to his ear.
“Bram?” a deep voice said.
“Wolf, I’m nearly at Addie’s. She called me. Someone broke down her front door.”
“I’m on my way,” Nick “Wolf” Garrick clipped out. “Don’t kill anyone.”
Bram shoved the phone back in his pocket. He reached the front door of her building, and found it ajar.
He shouldered through.
If the fucker hurt Addie, Bram would kill him.
He thundered up the stairs and saw her door was open.
As he raced inside, he spotted a big guy, wearing a black ski mask. He was banging on the bathroom door. The asshole was as tall as Bram.
Pure, red-hot anger flooded him. He strode across the living room, and gripped the back of the man’s black shirt.
The guy jolted. Bram wrenched him backward, and the guy hit Addie’s tiny table. It collapsed under the weight of him, wood splintering.
With a growl, the man launched himself at Bram.
