She found a simple, white nightgown in her suitcase, that, while short, still fit over her belly. Just.

When she got into the bed, she moaned. The sheets smelled like Bram. That leather and spice scent that was embedded in her senses. She pressed her face into the pillow, and breathed deeply.

Finally, she felt safe. The tension of the last few hours, days, and weeks was beginning to drain away.

Safe.

She cradled her belly.

For now, she could let go of the worry, stress, and fear. She knew with absolute certainty that Bram was out there, and would stop anything or anyone who came through the door. He’d already fought for her tonight.

Because you’re pregnant and he feels responsible, a voice in her head whispered. Not because he wants you.

Addie banged her fist against the pillow. She wasn’t sure how she felt.

Did she want Bram to want her? The truth was, she was still in love with him. She wanted him, but not because he felt she was a chore, or a burden.

It took a while, but she finally drifted off to sleep, Bram’s scent in her senses. She must have dreamed, because she was certain she felt a rough hand stroke her hair, and an accented voice whisper, “I’ll keep you safe, I promise.”

CHAPTERFIVE

The next morning, Bram quietly opened the front door to his apartment and slipped inside.

He’d woken up early after an uncomfortable night on the couch. He’d stewed over this fucker stalking Addie.

Maybe it was some sick fuck who’d seen her dance?

Mine. The word echoed in his head. He wasn’t lettinganyonenear her.

He carried the shopping bags in his hands into the kitchen. He fucking hated shopping.

He paused to listen. The apartment was still as quiet as it had been when he’d left this morning, and Addie had been fast asleep. His muscles clenched. When he’d checked on her, she’d been curled around a pillow in the center of his bed. He’d had to fight not to touch her.

She needed her sleep.

He’d left her a note, but it was still untouched on the island in the kitchen.

He dropped the bags on the floor beside the island, and started the coffee machine. Only moments later, he heard the quiet pad of bare feet.

He turned and his throat closed.

Addie’s sunny blonde hair was a wild, tangled mess, her legs were bare and golden. She wore a tiny scrap of white that pulled tight over her belly.

“Bram.” She rubbed her eyes, still sleepy.

“Morning. Did you sleep all right?”

“Like a rock. It was the best sleep I’ve had in…” she tilted her head. “A really long time.”

“Coffee?” He pulled a mug out of the cupboard.

“No, thanks.” She touched her belly. “I’m off caffeine. Do you have any juice?”

“Yeah. Sit down.”

She slid onto a stool at the island. “I need to call Paddy today and talk about my shifts.”

Bram frowned. “You can’t work at the bar.”
