She blinked. “Bram, I need to work. I need the paycheck.”

“I’ll take care of you.”

She straightened. “I can take care of myself.”

He poured her some orange juice. “Never said you couldn’t, but you aren’t alone anymore. I’ll take care of you and the baby. It isn’t safe for you in the bar while someone is after you. You’d be putting yourself, the staff, and the bargoers at risk.”

“Oh.” Her face fell, and she rubbed her belly. “I don’t want anyone to get hurt.”

So damn caring. “Then talk to Paddy today.”

She nodded.

When Bram brought her juice over to her, he nudged a shopping bag toward her with his foot.

“What’s all of this?” she asked.

“It’s for you.”

She blinked. “Me?”

He hauled the bags onto the island. “Stuff expectant mothers need.”

Addie just looked at him. “How do you know what expectant mothers need?”

He cleared his throat. “I Googled it.” And sent Hex a message. Or seven. He was pretty sure the tech guru had been laughing at his questions.

Addie reached into the closest bag and pulled out a maternity nightgown and matching robe in soft-blue stripes.

“Oh.” She stroked the fabric.

“If you want more of my T-shirts, I have plenty.”

“This is so pretty.” She pulled a long pillow out next.

“Lady at the store said it’s good for sleeping, for pregnant women.” He felt heat creep up the back of his neck.

Addie pulled out a blanket next. It was really soft, and a pretty, pink color. She stroked it.

“Um, I know you had a similar one at your place. There are some things for the bath. And other…stuff. Anything you don’t want, I’ll return.”

“Bram…” Her voice was breathy.

When he saw tears in her eyes, panic swooped in.Shit. “If you hate it all—”

“No.” She grabbed his hand. “I love it. I… No one’s done anything like this for me.”

He made a low sound and stepped closer, wrapping his arms around her.

She held on tight and pressed her face to his chest. They didn’t talk, and he just stroked her back. He didn’t really know what to say, but he just wanted those tears to go away.

When she finally tipped her face up, he saw the tears were gone, and there was simmering heat in their place.

Feck. He tried to find some control. She was pregnant, vulnerable, and still rumpled from sleep.

“Bram?”

He grunted.
