“I managed to track down the messages Addie left you, Bram.”

He frowned. “Why didn’t I get them?

“Someone made sure you didn’t.”

“Someone hacked our system?” He couldn’t believe that. Hex was a fiend when it came to cybersecurity.

“No.” Anger crossed her face. “It was someone on the inside.”

“What?” That made no sense. Someone from Sentinel Security had stopped Addie getting in touch with him.

“It was the same someone who Addie spoke with upstairs when she visited.”

“Tell me,” he demanded.

Addie gasped. “The woman in reception.”

Hex nodded and cleared her throat. “Pam.”

Bram frowned. “Who?”

“God, men are so clueless. Pam. She works in reception. She has a massive crush on you.”

His frown deepened as he thought. “Brunette? Late thirties?”

“That’s her,” Hex said. “Divorced, and an experienced office receptionist who’s good at her job. Except when a young, beautiful blonde keeps trying to get in touch with the hot, gruff guy she has her eye on.”

Anger welled inside Bram. It was small at first, but swelled. Because this woman he barely knew was petty, Addie had gone through hell, and thought he’d abandoned her. It had left her in danger. He growled.

Hex’s bi-colored eyes popped open in alarm. “Bram—”

“She in?”

“Bram, listen—”

“Hex, is she in?”

“Yes.”

He swiveled and headed for the door.

Addie raced after Bram.

She shot a panicked look at Hex, who was keeping pace beside her. The other woman pulled a face.

Bram looked like a thundercloud. Addie felt the crackle of electricity coming from him.

The three of them slid into the elevator, and Bram stabbed at a button.

“Bram—” Hex started.

“No,” he growled. “That woman stepped out of line. Addie was trying to reach me, with important information, and this woman, for her own fucked-up reasons, blocked the messages.”

“I get it. And I’ll be telling Killian. Pam will be gone before the end of the day. I’ve already sent him a message.”

Addie wrung her hands together. She couldn’t believe a woman would be this petty.
